U.S. online retail sales to reach $886.2 billion in 2021

U.S. online retail sales to reach $886.2 billion in 2021

At the beginning of this year, many Amazon sellers felt that this year's sales performance was not as good as last year, but after nearly a year of practice, it was found that in terms of e-commerce, 2021 as a whole does not look like the previous weeks . The e-commerce industry is changing , and changing quickly.

Now, new forecasts from the Digital Commerce 360 research team show that 2021 will be a year unlike any other in the history of the e-commerce industry .

Last year, the pandemic changed the retail landscape, and now, as changes in the industry accelerate, the findings show:

1. Strong holiday sales will drive total U.S. online retail sales to $886.2 billion in 2021, Digital Commerce   360 estimates: This year's total U.S. online retail sales will increase by 16.2% from $762.68 million in 2020 and surge by 53.2% from $578.5 billion in 2019.

2. Currently , online sales account for about 20% of U.S. retail sales. With Amazon and its competitors eBay, Walmart, Wish, etc. investing heavily in e-commerce, the online sales market share will continue to grow even if consumers return to physical stores for shopping .

3. Data shows that pure online retailers will be the fastest growing type of business, with a collective increase of 29.8% based on the 38.3% growth in the previous year. This also predicts that more and more consumers will start to join the ranks of online shopping.

4. Digital Commerce 360 estimates that digital revenues in the important November-December period could surpass the $200 billion mark for the first time, reaching $215.45 billion in e-commerce sales. This is higher than the $192.19 billion reached in the same two months in 2020.

5. The epidemic is a booster for e-commerce. The US e-commerce market will reach the 2023 level expected by experts this year . Logistics congestion has led to empty shelves in physical stores, and the closure of large retail supermarkets on Thanksgiving has directly driven the growth of online sales.

According to some Amazon sellers, some US sellers participating in the Black Friday promotion have taken advantage of the tail end of Thanksgiving to win several small category BSRs in a row, and their orders have now doubled.
