Attention, multi-platform sellers, USPS high surcharges will take effect

Attention, multi-platform sellers, USPS high surcharges will take effect

At the end of last year, USPS announced a new policy to charge surcharges for packages exceeding a certain length. The surcharge plan was originally scheduled to take effect on January 9 this year, but USPS later postponed the plan to April 3.

Etsy also recently issued a statement to platform users to remind them of the fee changes. The details are as follows:

On April 3, USPS will introduce new fees for certain packages. Depending on the size of the packages you ship, USPS's new fee changes may affect you. Please review the following to make sure you are ready for this change. Packages that meet any of the following criteria and do not already have accurate dimensions will be charged an additional $1.50:

More than one cubic foot

lOver 22 inches

Packages of the following sizes will incur the additional charges specified for each package:

Length Fee:

Packages over 22 inches: $ 4.00 surcharge

Packages over 30 inches : $15.00 surcharge

Volume cost :

Packages over 2 cubic feet : $15.00 surcharge

Taking movie poster sellers as an example, in addition to the normal postage costs, they also need to pay an additional $4 for packages larger than 22 inches and an additional $15 for packages larger than 30 inches.

The new surcharge is undoubtedly bad news for sellers on platforms such as eBay and Etsy, who had been hoping that the platforms would reach an agreement with the USPS to exempt their packages.

Last December, the USPS explained why it delayed the new fees until April of this year. The USPS said the short delay was intended to give the industry more time to plan and adjust, and was consistent with its intention to be smart in its pricing decisions and responsive to customer needs.

It is reported that eBay will also announce the upcoming fee changes and is currently working with USPS for further confirmation.

In fact, in addition to USPS, several express delivery companies have adjusted their rates for 2022. FedEx raised its pricing in the United States and abroad by an average of 5.9%, and also increased regular fees for almost all goods.

Canada Post will also increase its weight-based parcel shipping rates within Canada by 3.5%, international shipping to the United States and other countries by 2.8%, and global priority rates by 5.5%. In addition, the Royal Mail has also revised its domestic shipping pricing rules.

The courier companies modify the logistics freight pricing rules and increase surcharges, which will increase the sellers' logistics costs to a certain extent. Sellers can compare the policies of different logistics service providers and choose the logistics that best suits them.
