Amazon is carrying out humanitarian efforts in Ukraine

" There is no doubt that there are deep concerns for those affected by events in Ukraine. We remain concerned about the safety of people in the region, and many companies are stepping up to offer support in any way they can. " Today, Amazon announced that although they have no operations in Ukraine, they are making contributions to support humanitarian efforts in the country.

However, it is difficult for companies without any local operations to provide direct support in war zones , so Amazon will donate $5 million to organizations providing critical support on the ground , including UNICEF, UNHCR, the World Food Programme, the Red Cross, Polska Akcja Humanitarna, and Save the Children .

Amazon employees have also said they want to help, so Amazon is matching up to $5 million in additional donations their teams make to these organizations. For customers who want to help, Amazon is adding a donation button to the homepage of its website in the U.S., U.K., Poland, and Germany, and will waive any payment processing fees.

In addition to providing financial support to local relief efforts in Ukraine, Amazon is also working to support the teams helping Ukraine in other ways . For example, Amazon is giving employees in Poland extra time off to care for themselves and their families, and they are working with Ukrainian nationals to expedite immigration work visas .

Recovery from the war will take many years, and Amazon will continue to work with NGOs, employees, and partners to support relief efforts and those affected.

As part of its support for Ukraine, Amazon is using its logistics capabilities to get supplies to those in need, and its cybersecurity expertise to help the government and companies, Chief Executive Andy Jassy said on Twitter on Wednesday.

"Amazon stands with the people of Ukraine and will continue to help," Jassy said . Earlier this week, Amazon pledged to donate up to $10 million to humanitarian efforts , becoming the latest company to mobilize to offer aid.
