Sellers’ products have become free props, buyers: “Everyone does this”

It is not uncommon for buyers to take advantage of the return policy to get something for free, such as sending clothes back after receiving a computer, and continuing to ask for a return after using it for a while. Platform loopholes have nurtured many "fraudulent" buyers. Although there are cases of arrests for fraud, this kind of small-scale fraud is rampant.

Recently, a seller shared a related experience, which was even more outrageous. The seller attended a Christmas party and met several film professionals. From the conversation with them, he learned about a typical case of freeloading.

A: We decorated our entire Halloween party with Amazon items and then returned them all.

B: A set designer I know for a low-budget film orders all of his furniture and items from Amazon and then returns them after filming is finished.

C: If Amazon didn’t want us to manipulate the system, they wouldn’t have set it up that way.

And from their conversation, they all thought that this was a common phenomenon in the circle, and said that this was not dishonest, but just messing with Amazon.

As soon as the post was released, it triggered comments from many sellers, who shared cases that happened to them.

This kind of case is not limited to Amazon. A seller accidentally stepped on someone's glasses near the court while playing volleyball. The seller offered to pay for the repair or replacement, but the owner of the glasses said it was no problem and he would return the glasses to Costco. The seller suggested that this would cause Costco to suffer undue losses, but the owner of the glasses thought that such worries were unnecessary and the platform did not mind.

However , some sellers said that the above cases were not theft, but "reasonable" returns under normal circumstances . Each category is different. It is okay to return defective or unsuitable items, and returning disposable products is a serious fraud. Although it is not very friendly to sellers, the relaxed return policy is one of the important factors that attract consumers to the platform.

Especially some Christmas decorations, small cards, etc., it is not uncommon to return them after use during the holidays. Many sellers have reported an increase in return rates during the peak season. Amazon also has to consider the sellers' perspective. Third-party sellers are also important customers of the platform.

Amazon’s return policy has always been the target of complaints from sellers. Many sellers said that although they are helpless, they still need to communicate with buyers in a timely manner when encountering such situations to minimize losses.
