Consumer sentiment is optimistic, and 148 million Americans are expected to participate in Super Saturday

U.S. consumer sentiment is gradually turning optimistic .

 

According to the National Retail Federation ( NRF) and Prosper   Insights   &   According to an annual survey by eBay Analytics, more than 148 million consumers plan to shop in-store and online on Super Saturday , the last Saturday before Christmas ( December 18) this year.

 

That’s down from 150 million last year but up from 147 million in 2019. The 2021 number of expected shoppers is the third-highest on record since the NRF began keeping count of Super Saturday in 2016 .

 

In 2019, Super Saturday became the biggest shopping day of the year with sales of $34.4 billion, surpassing Black Friday ( $31.2 billion ), Small Business Saturday ( $19.6 billion), and Cyber ​​Monday ($9.1 billion) .

 

According to the survey, more than a quarter ( 27% ) of consumers plan to shop only in-store during this year’s Super Saturday, while nearly a third ( 32% ) plan to shop only online. The majority ( 41% ) will use a combination of both channels .

 

The survey shows that consumer sentiment is gradually shifting toward optimism . Most ( 71% ) holiday shoppers say they can find the items they need most of the time , with optimism high . Two-thirds ( 67 % ) say they are confident they will be able to find the gifts and other items they need for the holidays this year.

 

But many still intend to finish shopping early, with 42% planning to buy their last gift by December 18 , up from 40% a year ago . However, more than half ( 52% ) still expect to pick their final gift in the week before Christmas.

 

By far the most popular gift items for the holiday season include apparel and accessories ( 44% ) , toys ( 30% ) , books and other media ( 26% ) , gift cards ( 25% ) and electronics ( 20% ) .

 

65% of holiday shoppers plan to shop during the week after Christmas . The top reasons consumers plan to shop during this time are to take advantage of deals and promotions ( 42% ) and to use gift cards ( 24% ) .

 

NRF previously forecast that holiday sales would rise 8.5% to 10.5% to $843.4 billion to $859 billion in 2021. However , NRF now predicts that sales could rise 11.5% from last year .
