Stop selling! Fake airbags sold on eBay will be recalled

Recently, the American Automotive Anti-Counterfeiting Committee (A2C2) said that the proliferation of counterfeit auto airbags and components on the eBay platform poses a serious threat to the health and life safety of drivers. Therefore, A2C2 called on eBay to immediately stop selling such products on its platform.

Earlier, British police arrested an eBay seller suspected of selling counterfeit airbags. According to factory analysis, counterfeit airbags cannot pop out or inflate normally in an accident, which can easily pose a safety threat to drivers and passengers in the event of an accident.

Teena Bohi, president of A2C2 , said that the counterfeit airbags and related SRS parts on eBay look the same as the genuine ones, and it is difficult for ordinary consumers to distinguish the authenticity. If the counterfeit airbags are purchased by uninformed consumers and repair shops, it is easy to cause major safety accidents and pose a huge safety hazard.

It is understood that the counterfeit air bags and components were not manufactured to strict specifications and did not undergo quality control testing or apply industry safety measures, in violation of U.S. federal regulations.

Moreover, after testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these fake airbags will malfunction when used, and the metal shrapnel inside is likely to jump out, causing unnecessary harm to the driver.

In 2020 , Takata, a supplier of automotive airbags, conducted a large-scale recall worldwide due to safety hazards in its airbags. Airbags themselves exist to ensure "safety", so the news that counterfeit airbags are rampant on eBay has also attracted everyone's attention.

Under pressure from A2C2 and multiple US government agencies, eBay has issued a ban on the sale of counterfeit airbags and their components, and said that substandard products may result in inventory recalls by relevant departments. However, such products are still being sold on its platform, and some of the counterfeit products recently recalled by FBA still come from eBay.

Therefore, we would like to remind sellers who sell related products to conduct self-inspections as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary losses.
