The surge in shipments has caused serious congestion at the Yantian Port, which is almost paralyzed. Many sellers have stayed up all night to queue up, and some have queued up to more than 2,000 and have not been able to enter the warehouse for several days. In order to ease the congestion, the Yantian Traffic Police Brigade has adopted temporary traffic control, and container trucks are no longer allowed to enter some sections of the road.

Starting from February 3, a large amount of goods have poured into Yantian Port, causing a serious backlog of goods at the port. The editor asked several freight forwarders about this matter, and they said that Yantian Port can only be described as "blocked, blocked, blocked".

 

"Recently, the sales have been so strong that our air freight customer service has been sleeping in the office at night. This is the case for air freight, not to mention sea freight." "All the sales staff on duty have taken turns to move goods to the warehouse these days. The terminal is so congested that the queues last until the early morning."

 

Sellers and foreign trade people feel it more clearly.

 

One merchant complained: "There are queues of containers at Yantian Port to get on the Yantian Expressway. Either you can't pick up the containers, or you have to queue up to enter the port after you pick up the containers. It's so crowded. How can foreign trade people celebrate the New Year?" Another person also complained: "The queue for Jinyunda Yantian warehouse is so long. First, the warehouse is fully booked. After the appointment is made, you have to get a number on the day of delivery. Now there are more than 2,000 people in front of me. When can I get it delivered?"

There are many similar situations. One seller said that he had been waiting in line at Jinyunda for 4 days, but there were still more than 800 people waiting, and he was in a state of panic. He asked the freight forwarder for help, but the freight forwarder only said that he could either wait or ship it out after the Chinese New Year, which was speechless. Another seller said the same thing: Jinyunda had more than 1,350 people waiting in line for 4 days, but there were still more than 500 people waiting. In the end, he asked the freight forwarder to come and pick up the goods and help him enter the warehouse yesterday.

 

Some sellers also said that they could not make an appointment until three or four of us took the time to make an appointment. We waited in line for two days and paid the driver 500 yuan every day .

 

Regarding this situation, a freight forwarder said, "(Congestion) will be better before the New Year. The large-scale shipments from big sellers have almost stopped in the past two days, and small batches will follow later."

 

Yesterday, Yantian International issued a situation notice.

 

 

The notice stated that due to the epidemic and the early shipment of factories, the peak before the Spring Festival this year was particularly obvious. Starting from this week, the number of vehicles entering the port has increased significantly, especially since February 3, when vehicles entering the port to deliver heavy containers have been queuing up, and the peak period has come about a week earlier than expected.

 

At present, the terminal has nearly 300,000 TEUs of heavy containers stored , the highest peak in history, and the storage density is close to the limit ; in order to increase the storage space for heavy containers, the number of long positions has been increased from 220 to 300, the highest number in history.

 

In addition, Yantian International mainly serves European and American routes. Due to the epidemic, the operation of European and American ports has been slow, affecting the normal operation time of flights, resulting in the storage cycle of heavy containers at Yantian Port being extended from the normal 3-5 days to about 9.5 days, and the detention time has been extended by more than 1 time , which has seriously affected the storage operation cycle of the terminal, making it impossible to release space normally, and compressing the heavy container storage capacity.

 

Relevant personnel from Yantian International said that it will take 2-3 days to ease the severe queuing situation .

 

This week is the peak period for heavy containers to return to Hong Kong. It is expected that starting from next week, the phenomenon of heavy containers queuing at the gate will be alleviated. Yantian International recommends that the trailer association call on trailer companies to screen when accepting orders, try to accept waybills with closer shipping dates, and try to avoid traffic jams caused by heavy export containers with later shipping dates returning to Hong Kong in advance . And remind trailer personnel to remain restrained to avoid unnecessary disputes and troubles.

 

In order to cope with the peak of outbound freight at Yantian Port before the New Year and alleviate the serious traffic congestion, the Yantian Traffic Police Brigade decided to take necessary temporary traffic control measures, and implemented temporary traffic control at the intersection of Beishan Road and Yong'an Road, the intersection of Wutongshan Avenue and Yantian Road, the Wutongshan Interchange of Yanpai Expressway, and the eastbound ramp of Beishan Road of Huishen Coastal Expressway, prohibiting container trucks from entering.

 

In addition, the congestion at Yantian Port is related to Amazon's recent relaxation of shipping quotas and sellers' panic restocking.

A few days ago, Amazon once again relaxed the FBA delivery restrictions, especially for new products, the delivery quantity limit was relaxed to 1500. Old products can also be shipped for nearly 3 months.

 

As a result, sellers who had suffered enough from Amazon's shipping restrictions could no longer sit still and began to create shipments overnight. Some sellers who had just shipped goods even continued to replenish their stocks after seeing the increase in their quotas, in order to ship another batch before the New Year.

 

 

Some sellers posted photos of themselves coordinating with freight forwarders for shipment at 4 a.m. , while other freight forwarders said that they encountered equally powerful customers while staying up late to ship goods, and their messages were replied within seconds at 2 a.m., so it was no wonder that they were able to ship 1,500 boxes.

 

The person in charge of Baotongda Logistics said that due to the sharp increase in cargo volume, the warehouse has already implemented 24-hour uninterrupted operation, but the pressure on the warehouse is still huge, and the 60,000-square-meter warehouse is already full.

 

This round of crazy replenishment has made the transportation capacity, which was already tight due to year-end stocking, even tighter.

 

As early as last month, most Amazon sellers started preparing for the end of the year. As some factories closed for holidays in the middle and end of the month, many sellers began to panic, fearing that they would not be able to get the goods by the end of the year. Due to the epidemic, the start time of factories after the New Year is uncertain. Many factories will start work in March, and they will have to queue up to get the goods by then.

 

Some sellers who experienced the pain of out-of-stock a few years ago are panicking. They are afraid that they will have no goods to sell after the New Year, which will affect product rankings and sales. They are hungry and stock up when they can get the goods. Some sellers also reported the magical scene of urging suppliers every day and the suppliers were very arrogant.

 

A wave of hungry stocking and a wave of frantic stocking after the lifting of stocking restrictions have caused serious congestion in logistics. Sellers who stocked up in advance, for cost considerations, mostly choose to ship by sea, and the port congestion is very serious. Not only the domestic Yantian Port, but also the terminal West Coast Port in the United States has experienced serious congestion.
