Development History -In 2016, Australian entrepreneurs Guy King and Bevan Clark founded RetailMeNot. -In 2010, RetailMeNot was acquired by WhaleShark Media, one of the largest digital coupon marketplaces in the U.S. WhaleShark Media had previously acquired several coupon sites and changed its name to RetailMeNot in 2013. -In April 2017, Harland Clarke, an investment company under MacAndrews and Forbes Holdings, acquired RetailMeNot for US$630 million.
Financing On November 1, 2009, it received venture capital of US$21 million. On November 24, 2009, it received $28.5 million in Series A funding from Austin Ventures. On December 2, 2010, it received $90 million in Series B financing from Austin Ventures, Adams Street Partners and Norwest Venture Partners - NVP. On August 1, 2011, it received $10 million in Series C funding from Google Ventures. On November 10, 2011, it received equity investment of US$150 million from IVP and JPMorgan Investment. On July 19, 2013, the IPO raised $190,909,068. On December 12, 2013, the company raised $162,945,562 in financing after its IPO. On April 11, 2017, RetailMeNot received a $630 million acquisition investment from Harland Clarke.
Legal disputes Mary Kay Cosmetics sued RetailMeNot in federal court, alleging that the Mary Kay coupons displayed on the site misled consumers and damaged the brand and its relationships with its sales representatives (independent consultants) in multiple ways. The lawsuit was settled confidentially a few months later. In June 2018, RetailMeNot sued its competitor Honey Science Corporation for patent infringement involving computer-related technology. |
