There are frequent problems with last-mile delivery in the United States, and Amazon warehouses are having trouble again!
Some time ago, there were reports that several Amazon warehouses in the United States were temporarily closed due to the severe impact of the winter storm. Many people originally thought that the bad weather only had a short-term impact on product transportation, but this is not the case. Recently, not only has the news of "multiple Amazon warehouses urgently closed" continued to flood the screen, but the issue of Amazon's warehouse explosion has also been widely mentioned.
Amazon’s warehouses are severely overwhelmed and many warehouses are temporarily closed!
" How fast are your American goods being put on the shelves recently ? My goods were put into the warehouse in December , but they have not been registered until now , and the products have been out of stock for a while. " Before the holiday, many Amazon sellers reported that the warehouse work efficiency was very low and the products were slow to be received and put on the shelves. Now more and more sellers have the same experience. For a time, the news of the temporary closure of various Amazon warehouses spread like wildfire. According to the feedback from the freight forwarder:
1. Amazon XLX2 will start closing on February 16, 2023. This is a third-party warehouse and Amazon has not issued any official notification. 2. Due to the upgrade of the employee iris entry system, the appointments of warehouses such as SMF3, SBD1, and GYR3 have been postponed or cancelled, and the delivery time has been delayed. Among them, SMF3 has been closed and is temporarily not accepting goods into the warehouse. It is unknown when it will be restored. The delivery of SBD1 is expected to be delayed, and there will be rejections in the near future. There is no feedback that the recent delivery of goods at GYR3 has been affected, but there may be an impact in the future. 3. Due to operational restrictions, Amazon has not approved reservations for QXY9, and the specific delivery date is unknown; LAX9 currently has reservation delays of at least 15 to 20 days; In addition, due to operational restrictions, AWD warehouse IUSL and KRB7 satellite warehouses frequently cancel appointments and postpone appointments, making it difficult to control delivery time. The earliest delivery date given by Carrier Central is the end of May to early June. The response from Amazon Logistics said that the current pickup date is expected to be 2 to 3 weeks later, and no specific date can be given, and delivery will be restricted!
Regarding the above news, the editor also consulted several freight forwarders. Some said that they had not received any relevant notifications, but many others said that the news was basically true.
"Due to Amazon's large-scale layoffs of warehouse staff and insufficient transportation capacity , Amazon's warehouses have been severely overwhelmed recently. Although sometimes the expected delivery time is advanced, more often it is pushed back. In addition, we must pay special attention to the QXY9 warehouse . Some products will take more than a month to be put on the shelves. If they are not on the shelves yet, you can take the delivery proof to contact Amazon customer service for inspection ," said one industry insider.
"It has been confirmed that the XLX2 warehouse will be closed due to management issues. Those who have made appointments before February 16th can receive goods normally." Another freight forwarder said based on his own delivery experience that GYR3/SMF3/SBD1 was not temporarily closed, but the warehouse was full on a certain day and the goods could not be received during a certain period of time. Adjusting the appointment and sending again will not affect the delivery at all.
There are relatively more controversial points about the SMF3 warehouse, including claims of warehouse explosion and temporary closure. "SMF3 warehouse is temporarily closed for internal maintenance, and the products recently assigned to this warehouse cannot be shipped," said an Amazon seller. After multiple confirmations, he found that SMF3 will be closed for the next three weeks. If the news is true, the impact on sellers is not small. As we all know, SMF3 warehouse is a popular warehouse, and many sellers' goods will be assigned to this warehouse. If the product is about to be out of stock, it is likely that it will not be put on the shelves in time.
However, some freight forwarders have reported that the warehouse was not temporarily closed, but was overloaded on a certain day, or could not receive goods during a certain period of time. Adjusting the appointment and re-delivering will not affect the delivery of goods at all, but the SMF3 appointment is indeed not stable, and the appointment will be skipped even if it is received. Judging from the feedback from sellers on product listings, the efficiency of the SMF3 warehouse is indeed worrying. Many people have not received their goods for a month after signing for them.
It is also worth noting that the bad weather has also exacerbated the warehouse explosion in the United States. Recently, many parts of the United States have been hit by continuous cold weather. The Great Plains of the United States have been affected by the cold current and monsoon, and the area around Dallas has been severely affected by the blizzard. The temperature has dropped sharply, and the road has been severely icy, resulting in an increase in traffic accidents. Traffic cannot move forward, and there will definitely be a certain degree of delay in the transportation of goods. Warehouses such as FTW1, FTW2, FTW5, and DFW6 that deliver to Dallas have all been affected to a certain extent.
In addition, the cold weather damaged the AFW1 Amazon warehouse. The seller confirmed with Amazon customer service that the AFW1 warehouse has been temporarily closed due to the damage to the site structure caused by the severe weather event. The operation center is now under repair, so all products in this warehouse are in a state of being unable to be delivered. It is expected that it will not be restored to normal until April 30. It is foreseeable that the sellers of products in this warehouse will be cheated again.
Here we go again, strikes continue across Europe!
The last-mile delivery in the United States is worrying, and the logistics situation in Europe is not optimistic. The British went on strike because of wage issues, the French continued to march to protest against the delay of retirement, and Germany also started to strike again to demand a wage increase ...
On February 6, local time , in order to express their dissatisfaction with their current income, postal workers across Germany held a two-day strike at the call of the German Service Industry Union, with as many as 160,000 postal employees participating.
In addition to asking postal workers to stop delivering letters and parcels, the German Service Industry Union also held protest rallies in cities such as Berlin, Dortmund, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. Due to the strike, more than 5 million letters and more than 1 million parcels were delayed on February 7 alone, far exceeding expectations. It is understood that Deutsche Post held two rounds of labor-management negotiations in January this year, both of which ended in failure. On February 8 local time, the German Service Industry Union and Deutsche Post started the third round of salary negotiations, and Deutsche Post may meet some of its demands.
"If one transportation channel is missing, there will inevitably be some congestion in the goods," said a freight forwarder.
There have also been large-scale demonstrations in the UK, and there will be strikes in the future. The Royal Mail has confirmed that workers will go on strike on February 16 and February 17, and package deliveries will be interrupted. In order to reduce the impact on sellers' businesses, eBay UK announced that it will protect sellers' performance from February 12 (Sunday) to February 20 (Monday).
The strike in France also caused a stir. According to foreign media reports, the Port of Le Havre, France's second largest cargo port , was blocked by protesters in the early morning of the 7th. The transportation sector was the most severely affected by the strike, and only about half of the French rail transit trains remained in normal operation.
The importance of logistics and transportation to sellers is self-evident, and sellers also need to pay attention to the latest developments in last-mile delivery.
