This year's Black Friday sales are quietly approaching, and with it comes a surge in package theft rates. Recently, the British government issued a statement urging consumers who shop online during Black Friday to protect their packages .
A recent global survey of parcel thefts showed that the UK has the highest increase in parcel thefts and lost parcels in the world , and the cost of living crisis is likely to make the situation worse.
The 2022 Global Parcel Theft Report , conducted by Penn Elcom in partnership with Scuri , shows that 12% of people in the UK reported having at least one parcel lost or stolen between May 2021 and April 2022 - a 5% increase on the previous 12 months. This equates to more than 8 million parcels lost , with a value of £ 320 million .
Roger Willems, executive director of Penn Elcom , said: " With budgets tighter than ever this year, our report should serve as a wake-up call for consumers who are considering online shopping on Black Friday this year, and should also be aware of this issue when buying gifts for relatives and friends online at Christmas . " " Everyone wants the convenience of home delivery, but if there is no safe place to store the package at your doorstep , then choosing to pick up the package at an offline station can at least ensure that your package will not be stolen . "
According to the survey report, the UK saw the highest increase in package theft or loss (5%), followed by Australia (3%), Canada (2%), the United States (1%) and the UAE (1%).
32% of the British people surveyed said they had experienced at least one lost or stolen parcel, totaling 21.5 million parcels. A third of British residents also said they worry about parcels being lost when sending or receiving parcels .
Data shows that nearly 4 million British shoppers said they would avoid shopping online due to package security issues . Globally, nearly one in ten people said they had experienced at least one lost or stolen package between May 2021 and April 2022 , with a total of a staggering 1.009 billion packages worth more than £ 33.6 billion .
It is understood that 17% of British people said they would feel anxious about parcel theft , of which 60% were women. However, most of the respondents who have studied how to prevent parcel theft are men . Overall , about 7.4 million people in the UK are worried about the risk of their parcels being stolen.
Therefore, after Black Friday, sellers may receive a large number of feedback from consumers that they have not received their packages. Sellers need to respond in advance to avoid losing both money and goods. U.K. pack theft |
