Starting from September 15th, Amazon will recycle all "expired" inventory!

On September 7, local time, Amazon Europe announced that in order to leave more storage space during the holiday sales season , it will deal with old inventory in Europe in the near future . The specific announcement is as follows:

Starting September 15, 2022 , Amazon will automatically remove obsolete inventory to create more storage space for the upcoming holiday selling season.

It is reported that Amazon defines " obsolete inventory " as goods that have been stored in its operations center for more than 365 days .

Amazon says that automatically removing obsolete inventory can help sellers save on obsolete inventory surcharges and improve their Inventory Performance Index scores .

If the seller still needs the old inventory products, he/she must go to the Amazon backend , that is, provide a valid return address in the "Automated fulfillable inventory settings" , otherwise the backlog of inventory products will be automatically donated, recycled or disposed of by Amazon .

If the seller chooses to refuse Amazon's automatic removal of expired inventory, he or she must also go to "Automated fulfillable inventory settings" and select "Disable" in the automatic long-term storage deletion settings .

Sellers should note that if automatic removal has been selected , no secondary changes can be made .

Amazon's move has sparked a lot of discussion among sellers.

They believe that this is Amazon's way of trying to get products for free before the peak season arrives, because sellers of small products with high return costs and low profits will choose to have Amazon handle it.

Some sellers also think this is a good thing because it can solve the storage fee problem and they no longer need to pay other return costs and other fees.

Of course, some sellers said that they wanted to try to sell out the products left over from last year’s holiday peak season this year, but they are about to become obsolete inventory and be moved out of Amazon warehouses, and are destined to suffer a wave of losses.

The European and American holiday peak season is approaching. In order to cope with this sales peak period, Amazon has been taking frequent actions recently and updating many operations.

Taking the European site as an example, in the past month, Amazon’s European site has launched new services in logistics, warehousing, returns, compliance and other aspects.

It is understood that not long ago, Amazon added the Small and Light program to its European integrated logistics service ( Pan-EU) for small and light commodities with fast circulation and low unit prices. After joining , sellers' products can enjoy lower delivery costs while enjoying the Prime logo .

Shortly before this, Amazon also announced the launch of a compliance reference tool on the European site to help sellers manage compliance obligations and keep abreast of changing compliance requirements.

The Compliance Reference Tool provides information on product compliance requirements, such as import and export regulations where the product is sold/shipped from, and compliance requirements for products such as toys, baby products, or products containing lithium batteries.

However, the new tool does not yet provide compliance requirements for all products, such as hazardous materials, chemicals or food.

Amazon Europe has also launched a new return settings page, which allows sellers to manage the return settings of all their stores with one click, effectively simplifying operations.

The peak season is approaching, and Amazon is working hard to optimize the operations of various departments. However, sellers do not seem optimistic about this year's holiday sales, especially in the European market. However, the specific market performance will still have to be determined after this node ends.
