With the secret to explosive sales, this category is hot-selling in the US!

In 2004, North America ( the United States and Canada ) founded the "National Dog Day" . Since then, August 26th of each year has become Dog Lover's Day in North America, and it is also another peak period for pet product sales in the local market .

 

As this year's National Dog Day approaches, e-commerce service company Pattern has tracked the demand for pet supplies on the Amazon platform in recent times and made market forecasts for pet supplies including dog food.

 

According to Pattern's data tracking, on Amazon, North American consumer demand for dog food peaks in January each year, and demand in January 2022 increased by 79% compared to December 2021 .

 

In addition, as people celebrate holidays for their pets, the demand for dog food also saw a peak in search traffic in the summer around August. In the dog snacks category, the same consumer demand trend as dog food also emerged.

 

 

The data clearly shows that pet supply sales in the United States in August this year may exceed last year.

 

Through search queries for specific pet product categories, Pattern summarized the overall demand changes in pet categories around National Dog Day in North America between 2020 and 2022, including:

The results again show that demand for the above dog products rose strongly around January, followed by a slight increase in late summer. In 2021, the period of decline in demand continued to increase, but normal growth is expected to resume in August 2022.

 

Although National Dog Day is a holiday to celebrate dogs, data from the same period in 2020 and 2021 show that Americans also have a high demand for cat food during this period.

 

What’s more interesting is that according to surveys in 2020 and 2021, around National Cat Day (October 29) in the United States, Americans’ demand for dog food is still higher than cat food, and other pet products also show the same consumer demand trend.

 

 

According to past data, Americans' demand for cat food declined in July, but rebounded compared to dog food in August, and this trend is expected to continue this year.

 

How much Americans love dogs can be seen from movies such as "A Dog's Purpose", "A Dog's Way Home", and "Hachiko: A Dog's Story". A survey shows that nearly 90% of pet owners in the United States will buy holiday gifts for their dogs.

 

In 2021 , sales of the U.S. pet products industry reached $123.6 billion , a year-on-year increase of 13.5%, far exceeding market expectations . Pet food alone reached $50 billion .

 

However, as heat waves swept the world this summer, the demand for cooling products continued to soar, and even pets were given cooling products.

 

According to the "European Market Opportunity Insights in August" report released by AliExpress, the number of searches for pet cooling pads in the European market has doubled compared to the past, with demand growth exceeding 200%, and the total market value of pet smart products has increased eightfold compared to the previous year. Smart feeders, smart cameras, and smart water dispensers have become the "three major items" of pet smart products, with a penetration rate exceeding 50%.

 

At present, the pet consumer group is constantly expanding. With the arrival of relevant festivals, consumer demand will continue to rise. Sellers should pay more attention to trend changes and not select products blindly.
