Amazon will automatically remove sellers’ old inventory in preparation for Prime Day

Recently, Amazon US announced that in order to free up more storage space as Prime Day approaches, Amazon will remove the following products from its shelves starting April 15:

1. Overage inventory: inventory that has been stored in the operation center for more than 365 days and is subject to long-term storage fees;

2. Idle inventory: ASINs that have no sales records for six consecutive months or more and have been stored in Amazon's fulfillment centers for more than 180 days.

Amazon said that sellers can clear their inventory through the "FBA Liquidation" program or Outlet Deal. The inventory selected for liquidation will be sent to wholesale liquidators, and the recycling price is between 5% and 10% of the average selling price of the product.

In addition, sellers can provide a valid return address in the automatic removal of sellable inventory settings. Amazon will then return the goods to the specified address. If the seller does not provide an address, the goods will be donated, recycled or disposed of. Therefore, it is best for sellers to check whether the return address has been added to avoid unnecessary losses.

It should be noted that Amazon defaults to sellers using the automatic removal of salable inventory service. If sellers do not want to use this feature, they can select the "disable" option on the relevant page. However, in this case, sellers will have to pay long-term storage fees for these inventory items , which will also affect their inventory performance index.

On March 2, Amazon US released a Prime Day restocking notice. The announcement stated that due to ongoing global supply chain challenges, it may take longer than usual to deliver inventory to Amazon distribution centers. Amazon encourages sellers to prepare Prime Day sales plans early and reserve sufficient inventory for their products.

It is understood that the way to participate in Prime Day is still to create a promotion in the background. It should be noted that this year's deal submission needs to be completed before April 29. At the same time, the goods sent to Amazon warehouses need to arrive at the distribution center before June 20.

Amazon's Prime Day is usually held in mid-July every year. Two years ago, due to the uncertainty related to the epidemic, Amazon had to postpone Prime Day to mid-October. Last year, Amazon's Prime Day promotion was held a month earlier, on June 21 and June 22.

Amazon Prime Day global sales in 2020 were $10.4 billion , and in 2021 they were $11.19 billion. Will this year set a new record? Let's wait and see.
