The EU has imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese aluminum producers, with tariffs ranging from 21.2% to 31.2%.

Recently, the Official Journal of the European Union reported that an investigation showed that Chinese aluminum products were sold at unfairly low prices. The European Union has imposed tariffs on aluminum products imported from China, and the European Commission has imposed anti-dumping duties of 21.2% to 31.2% on Chinese aluminum profile producers.

China is one of the countries in the world with the richest variety of aluminum processed materials, with about 300 alloys and 1,500 varieties. After a long period of development and accumulation, China has successively produced a large number of internationally advanced products and national famous brand products that have gone global. However, such results are obviously not welcomed by foreign companies and governments of other countries.

The anti-dumping investigation began last year. After receiving a complaint from the industry organization European Aluminium, the European Commission launched an investigation into these products, which are widely used in the transportation, construction and electronics industries, in February 2020.

Since August 25 last year , as part of the ongoing anti-dumping investigation, the EU has instructed national customs authorities to take appropriate steps to register aluminum profiles from China in order to trace and implement anti-dumping measures on these imported products.

Products that need to be registered include bars, profiles (solid and hollow), and tubes. These products are not processed and can be used for structural parts production, such as cut to length, drilling, bending, chamfering and threading. Extruded aluminum products include aluminum, alloy or non-alloy with an aluminum content not exceeding 99.3%.

In September of the same year , the European Commission published a document announcing the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duties, deciding to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty of up to 48% on Chinese aluminum profile products .

The head of the European Aluminium Association said the anti-dumping duties were crucial to the survival of the European aluminium value chain, which is critical to Europe's transition to a digital and green economy.

But in fact, the production of aluminum products has a very destructive effect on both land and water sources. The dumping accusations against Chinese aluminum extrusion products raised by a few EU companies are essentially due to internal factors such as products, management, and services, and they pass the consequences of their poor production and operation on to Chinese export companies.

Since then, for Europe, because there were rumors in the industry earlier, the number of orders from European customers has increased since December 2020. Now it is approaching the time for the tax increase to take effect. The production and transportation cycles of aluminum foil are relatively long. European customers have no time to place orders from China for stock, so their willingness to place orders is not as good as before. It is expected that subsequent European aluminum foil orders will also decrease.

For China, most foreign orders are fixed-price orders. Domestic aluminum prices have remained high recently, and the inverted aluminum price has led to a decline in export profits. Domestic aluminum foil manufacturers are generally not willing to accept export orders. However, at the same time, domestic aluminum foil has entered the peak consumption season, orders have increased, and the operating rate of large aluminum foil companies is almost above 90%. The aluminum foil produced is actually not difficult to digest.

In addition, the European market does not account for a high proportion of China's aluminum foil exports. Customs data show that in 2020, China's aluminum foil exports to the EU accounted for 12.89% of its total aluminum foil exports. After European orders decrease, China's aluminum foil companies can also switch to the domestic market or develop other foreign markets.
