New Zealand Post acquires Fliway express business

According to foreign media reports, in order to expand its parcel transportation capabilities to deliver larger items, New Zealand Post has now acquired Fliway Group. New Zealand Post said that the acquisition of Fliway is to increase logistics capabilities to support the strong growth of e-commerce in New Zealand .

Fliway Express specializes in delivering items that are too large to be delivered through the normal express delivery network . The acquisition of Fliway is driven by strong customer demand for the delivery of large items. Norbert Bojalski, Executive Director of Investment and Venture Capital at New Zealand Post , said : "Many of our customers, including retail and e-commerce customers, often ask us for solutions to deliver some large items . The acquisition of Fliway is also a natural extension of our efforts to provide more services to our customers . "

New Zealand Post 's acquisition of Fliway's express delivery business comes as New Zealand has been forced to suspend postal services to Russia following the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine . A New Zealand Post spokesman said airlines carrying New Zealand mail to Russia were currently unable to enter Russian airspace.

Fliway provides transport, warehousing and international freight services, with its headquarters in Auckland and more than 400 employees. According to a statement released by the Fliway Group: "NZ Post plans to operate Fliway as an independent business under the leadership of the existing Fliway management team. This means that users can continue to interact with the same Fliway managers and team contacts across Fliway departments nationwide."

Fliway complements New Zealand Post's services through its ability to transport and deliver "oversized items" that are not suitable for the postal and courier services provided by New Zealand Post. Fliway also said that Fliway is currently independently operated by its original management team and may be fully integrated into New Zealand Post at a later date.

The investment in Fliway comes shortly after New Zealand Post bought a 50 per cent stake in Supply Chain Solutions , alongside a planned $180 million investment in its parcel handling infrastructure across the country .

A New Zealand Post spokesman said the company had coped well with the surge in parcel volumes during the pandemic and had not experienced significant delivery delays.
