Amazon and Shein are shining in Israel's e-commerce market

After analyzing and ranking the net sales of major retailers in the Israeli market in 2020, foreign media found that some international brands including Amazon.com , Asos, Zara and Nike occupied the top places in the rankings .

 

It is worth noting that companies headquartered in the United States and China are far ahead in the rankings. The figure below shows the daily traffic data of Israeli users to shopping websites from different countries . It is not difficult to find that shopping websites in the United States and China have taken up the vast majority of traffic .

 


Amazon.com ranks at the top of the Israeli retailer rankings . Although Amazon has not yet launched a site in Israel, its revenue in the Israeli market reached US$195 million in 2020 and is growing at a rate of about 20% per year.

 

Amazon's popularity in Israel is partly due to its strategy of driving sales through delivery services . In 2018, Amazon added Israel to its list of international destinations offering free shipping for certain categories and orders over $80 .

 

In 2019, Amazon lowered the threshold to $49. Although free shipping was suspended during the global epidemic , it has now reopened free shipping for orders over $65 , but consumers are required to bear the import tax themselves .

 

The second largest retailer in Israel by sales is SHEIN, which was founded in 2008 and currently operates in Europe, North America, Australia and the Middle East . In 2020, SHEIN's revenue in Israel was $151 million. Over the years, S HEIN has often achieved 100% year-on-year growth and has grown into the world's largest fast fashion company.

 

S HEIN has helped to drive the fast fashion industry forward and has become a highly sought-after retailer in the process. Its popularity in the Israeli market is yet another sign that a large portion of Israeli consumers have an international mindset .

 

However, S HEIN is not a typical Chinese retailer because it does not sell in the Chinese market , but instead focuses on expanding in foreign markets. In contrast, companies like Alibaba focus on both domestic and foreign market development .

 

According to the latest market report data from Israel in 2022 , S HEIN has now won the championship in Israel . In 2021, it generated $244 million in revenue in the Israeli market , which made it surpass Amazon ( $130 million ) and become the largest e-commerce company in Israel.
