The United States passed a new bill, sellers may face stricter supervision

Although the platform has always cracked down on counterfeit and shoddy products, this behavior has been rampant, and theft and resale online are also common. In order to reduce the occurrence of this situation, e-commerce platforms are required to further strengthen their supervision of the platforms.

Recently, the U.S. Senate passed the Inform Consumers Act , which requires increased supervision of e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and eBay. This bill requires platforms to verify the identity information of "high-volume sellers", such as government ID, tax number and bank account information. "High-volume sellers" refer to annual sales of 200 orders or annual sales of more than $5,000.

In addition to sellers leaving contact information to facilitate communication with buyers, the bill also requires e-commerce platforms to provide contact information so that consumers can report sellers who sell counterfeit and dangerous products.

Counterfeit products not only damage the brand's image, but also lead to a large number of returns, causing considerable losses. It is reported that last year, American consumers lost $69 billion due to counterfeit products . In addition to combating the sale of counterfeit goods on the platform, verifying the identity of the seller can also combat theft to a certain extent.

Thefts aren’t limited to brick-and-mortar stores, either. Online crime is now rampant. Criminals steal merchandise from stores and even trucks and trains, then resell the stolen merchandise. According to the National Retail Federation, this type of organized retail crime (ORC) has become more severe during the pandemic.

Some time ago, there were reports of trucks being looted and e-commerce packages being stolen. After the theft, reselling them online has become a very quick way. According to foreign media reports, a theft occurred at Home Depot some time ago, where large rental equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars was stolen. These equipment were successfully resold in the online market within a few hours , which shows how unscrupulous this problem is and how easy it is to complete online theft.

The platform cracks down on counterfeit and shoddy products, and sellers should pay attention to strictly check themselves and operate in compliance.
