The survey results showed that among the top sellers on the eBay platform , about 55% have been selling for more than ten years , and some have been selling for more than twenty years .
Among them, more than 40% of the top sellers joined before 2010 and have been selling for twelve years, and nearly 15% of the sellers have been on the platform for more than twenty years .
In the past two years of booming global e-commerce, a large number of new sellers have flocked to the eBay platform. The number of sellers reached its maximum in 2020. These sellers only slowly began to succeed in 2021, but as time goes by, many of these new sellers will gradually disappear, and the most active ones are still the old sellers who have been selling for many years.
Without much new blood, sellers on the eBay platform are gradually aging, and more and more sales come from veteran sellers. Data shows that in 2018, 44% of the platform's best-selling products came from sellers with more than ten years of experience, and now, the proportion of best-selling products from sellers with ten years of experience has reached 55%. At the same time, the share of sellers who joined in the past five years has dropped from 33% to 28%. The sales share of veteran sellers is increasing.

On the one hand, this means the longevity of eBay sellers’ business, but on the other hand, it also means that the shrinking and lack of competitiveness of the new sellers’ market is not good for the platform. In the past five years, only 28% of the rated sellers were new sellers, and the market share of new sellers is much lower than that of other platforms, while the proportion of Amazon is about 44%.
The seller group is an important indicator of the health of e-commerce platforms . It is equally important for platforms to not only consolidate new users, but also to continuously attract new sellers. With the development of the times, the e-commerce market is also changing. The injection of new sellers can bring more freshness to the platform and help attract more new buyers. Only by flowing can the platform be more dynamic.
