Taking a cue from China’s Pinduoduo, BigBasket is targeting third- and fourth-tier cities to test community group-buying shopping methods, according to local media Economic Times. Users can create groups through messaging and social media platforms to buy goods at lower prices.
BigBasket is currently operating in about 30 cities, and this new way of shopping will expand its footprint in smaller towns in India. At the same time, BigBasket is also preparing to launch a courier service called BB Now, which can deliver goods within 15-30 minutes. It is expected to invest US$700 million this year to improve the service and shorten the delivery time to 15-30 minutes.
Although BigBasket 's group buying model can add competitive advantages to itself, social platforms such as DealShare and Shopsy , which are supported by Indian e-commerce giants, have also put a lot of thought into grocery delivery .
