Shipping giant CMA CGM acquires Ingram Micro

Shipping and logistics giant CMA CGM has taken a major step forward in its logistics development by signing a share and asset purchase agreement with Ingram Micro International to acquire the majority of Ingram Micro’s CLS ( International Commercial and Lifecycle Services ) business.

 

The acquisition also includes Shipwire and the company’s technology-forward logistics businesses in North America, Europe , Latin America and Asia Pacific , while the remainder of the existing CLS business will continue to be retained by Ingram Micro .

 

The transaction is reportedly valued at $3 billion. The Ingram Micro CLS business being acquired specializes in e-commerce contract logistics and omni-channel fulfillment , while Shipwire is a cloud-based logistics technology platform.

 

This acquisition is part of the CMA CGM Group’s strategy to build and develop a wide range of transport and logistics solutions to support its customers’ supply chains. The Group is accelerating investments to strengthen its shipping and logistics network and improve supply chain resilience and mobility.

 

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman of CMA CGM Group , said that the acquisition of part of Ingram Micro's business is of strategic significance to CMA CGM Group. After turning losses into profits this year, its subsidiary CEVA Logistics will accelerate its development and become one of the top four logistics companies in the world.

 

At the same time, CMA CGM 's position in the US and European markets will be significantly enhanced , enhancing its ability to seize opportunities brought by e-commerce. CMA CGM Group will also continue to develop based on its two pillars of shipping and logistics , and is committed to providing customers with leading end-to-end supply chain solutions .

 

It is reported that CMA CGM Group intends to complete the acquisition with its own funds, and the completion of the transaction is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approval from relevant authorities . The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2022.

 

Regarding the acquisition, Ingram Micro CEO Alain Monié mentioned that CMA CGM is committed to investing in technology, capabilities and talent to quickly become the largest player in the global e-commerce field. Driven by the driving factors of promoting corporate growth and thriving communities , this acquisition will inject new impetus into its dynamic and innovative CLS team .

 

Ingram Micro's investors also said they attach great importance to CMA CGM and believe that CLS will be a good fit for CEVA's logistics business . This move allows Ingram Micro to focus on the growth and expansion of its core technology distribution and cloud service capabilities , and they will continue to invest and develop these businesses organically.
