Spanish consumers are "Amazon-dependent", with 64% preferring large e-commerce platforms!

Although e-commerce is a relatively new market in Spain and is not as mature as other European and American countries, according to a report by European online transportation company Packlink , 2 out of 10 Spaniards made online purchases in November, and more than 56% spent more than 50 euros.

The report pointed out that Spanish men aged 40-50 spend more than 50 euros online per month, usually on gifts, clothing or technology products. In addition, Spanish consumers also like to concentrate their shopping during large discount seasons, such as Black Friday and Christmas. During the shopping season, technology products and clothing have the best sales, accounting for 52% and 48% respectively.

The survey also found that Spanish consumers have an "Amazon dependence" phenomenon, that is, compared with the growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises, they prefer to consume on large e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress, accounting for about 64%.

Although large e-commerce platforms are more accepted in Spain, it seems that small and medium-sized enterprises are also developing strongly this year, and there is still a lot of room for development. Packlink 's marketing director said that based on the performance of the e-commerce market in 2021, it can be seen that the economy is on the road to recovery. According to this trend, small and medium-sized e-commerce companies will usher in strong growth next year.

Compared with other European countries, Spanish consumers prefer to buy food products online, with 22% of Spanish respondents saying they have made purchases online, while in the UK and Germany, the proportion is 11% and 8% respectively.

On the other hand, Spanish consumers pay more attention to product reviews when shopping online. 46% of the respondents said that product reviews are the decisive factor in their purchase decisions. Therefore, when merchants are planning to enter the Spanish market, they should pay attention to the management of the review area. With high-quality services, consumers will have a good impression of the products and stores, and then receive positive reviews, which will improve the store image and sales.

The e-commerce market in Spain is not as developed as other European countries, but judging from various data, the future development prospects are still promising. Therefore, business sellers can formulate marketing strategies that meet the preferences of consumers according to local market conditions and win the local market.
