Protesters block Amazon warehouses, affecting Black Friday delivery

Protesters block Amazon warehouses, affecting Black Friday delivery

Currently, protests are mainly taking place outside Amazon warehouses in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.

Dozens of protesters from the Extinction Rebellion group gathered together and set up a series of protest signs outside the Amazon distribution center, trying to disrupt Amazon's delivery operations during the big promotion.

It is not clear how many orders will be delayed due to the protests. If the protests are not resolved as soon as possible, it will have a serious impact on cross-border sellers in the European market. The delivery time will directly affect the return rate of orders.

The protesters reportedly blocked 13 distribution centers across the UK, including Amazon's largest warehouse in the UK in Dunfermline , Scotland.

At the same time, the protesters also blocked the entrance to the Amazon logistics center in Doncaster, preventing trucks delivering Amazon packages from entering and leaving the distribution center.

The protest group said that through this protest, they hope people will pay attention to the way Amazon treats its labor force and its wasteful business practices. It is reported that before " Black Friday ", Amazon workers in many countries have already held strikes in the hope of increasing their wages.

Extinction Rebellion also wrote on Twitter: "If everyone understood the mass death, destruction and chaos that was coming, millions of people would take to the streets to demand and take part in action."

Regarding the protest, an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC that Amazon takes its responsibilities very seriously. They said: "We know there is always more to do, and we will continue to create and invest on behalf of our employees, customers, small businesses and communities across the UK."

The spokesperson added that Amazon has invested £32 billion ($42.7 billion) in the UK since 2010 and created 10,000 new permanent jobs across the country in 2021 alone.
