Sales increased by 33%, and "clean beauty" products are popular in the United States

So-called " clean beauty products " refer to cosmetics and skin care products that do not contain harmful artificial ingredients . At the same time, these products are sold in a sustainable, environmentally friendly or safer way . According to a report by the NPD Group, the demand for " clean beauty products " has surged in the past year , with about 68% of consumers saying they are looking for skin care brands that highlight "clean" ingredients.

"More than ever, consumers want to understand what's in their products and make decisions that are both healthy and environmentally friendly, " said Joshua Zeichner, a dermatologist in New York City.

While demand is strong , there is no standard definition for " clean beauty products ." In many cases, suppliers are emphasizing the absence of artificial ingredients and environmentally friendly formulas and packaging, according to market research and analytics firm NielsenIQ. Most of these products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are available on shelves.

However, the vague definition of "clean beauty products " has not affected the sales of skin care giants . According to NPD data, in the first half of this year , sales of products considered "clean beauty products" in department stores and beauty specialty stores increased by about 33% compared with the same period last year, reaching $1.6 billion. Skin care and makeup alone achieved sales growth of more than 20%.

Some major retailers, such as Sephora and Ulta Beauty , have stated that all products they sell that do not contain ingredients known or suspected to harm humans and the environment will be classified as "clean." According to Monica Arnaudo, chief marketing officer of Ulta Beauty, products with vegan or animal-tested formulas and eco- friendly packaging may also be included in the "clean beauty " category .

While the ingredients of “ clean beauty products may be vague, they often feature more minimalist packaging, such as more black and white . NielsenIQ said consumers are increasingly concerned about the sustainability of product production and disposal , as well as the positive impact on the environment.

The "clean beauty" field has also attracted the attention of capital. In early October, investment company Highlander Partners announced the acquisition of "clean beauty" brand RMS Beauty. A few days later, affordable "clean beauty" brand Innbeauty Project announced that it had obtained financing. NPD believes that "clean products" will become the next frontier.
