eBay home improvement category will usher in a shopping boom

According to a survey by eBay Ads, as the deadline for stamp duty exemption in the UK approaches, there may be a peak in home purchases. It is expected that consumers who move will become the focus of e-commerce audiences in the coming weeks. And the data shows that the average investment of respondents who buy houses is about 5,270 pounds.

In terms of categories, the locals generally give priority to purchasing hard furniture, such as sofas, beds and household appliances. In addition, the UK is a country that likes DIY, and DIY has a large market share.

About 39% of respondents said they would rather renovate a property than buy an already renovated home, 35% would buy DIY equipment and design it themselves, and 20% of consumers prefer second-hand refurbished or upgraded products.

Last year, the British government introduced a stamp duty exemption policy for house purchases, with the threshold raised to £500,000. No tax is required for purchases below £500,000, and the discount lasted until March this year. During that period, searches for home furnishings and DIY on eBay increased, peaking a few days before the deadline, 35% higher than the same period last year. During March, the search frequency for home furnishings on eBay reached an average of 81 searches per second.

In July, the British government adjusted the stamp duty policy for house purchases, and the stamp duty threshold was raised to 250,000 pounds until September this year. During this period, buyers can still enjoy government subsidies. Among the consumers surveyed who plan to move in the next six months, more than half said that the savings during the epidemic will allow them to move faster or move to a larger place.

As the exemption policy is about to expire, September may usher in another wave of moving boom, and the demand for home furnishing products will also increase. Moreover, it takes about one to four months to decorate a new home, which is a good opportunity for relevant sellers to place orders.

In addition to the housing purchase boom, the survey found that more and more young people are joining the ranks of renters. Among the respondents aged 34 and below, 59% said they wanted to move to another city to live. These renters will also become an important audience of consumers.

In the next month, there may be a sales boom in home furnishing and DIY-related home improvement categories, and relevant sellers can seize the opportunity.
