Annual revenue will reach 12.8 billion pounds, and the momentum of British e-commerce is still strong

It is reported that e-commerce currently accounts for about 25% of retail sales in the UK , which is lower than the 36.1% at the peak of the epidemic, but still higher than the 19% before the epidemic. As restrictions are gradually relaxed, the e-commerce market is still moving forward.

Since offline stores gradually opened, e-commerce sales in the UK have also declined. Compared with May, online sales in June fell by 4.7%, and this data has been declining since March, but this does not mean that the British have given up on e-commerce as a channel. As the lockdown continues, the decline is also normal.

Among these e-commerce platforms, Amazon is the most representative. During the peak of the epidemic, sales increased by 41%, and it is expected to increase by 10% to 16% in the next quarter. Although the growth rate has slowed down significantly, it still shows that online shopping habits are maintained.

At the same time, local handmade e-commerce platform Etsy also saw sales growth in the second quarter. In the three months ending June 30 this year, its total revenue increased by 23.4% to US$528.9 million.

Moreover, a recent survey of 1,500 consumers also showed that 85.9% of consumers still plan to continue shopping online.

Although the epidemic has driven the prosperity of e-commerce, the logistics industry has also ushered in challenges, and Brexit has exacerbated this challenge. According to recent reports, due to Brexit and the repeated epidemics, the UK is facing a serious shortage of trailer drivers.

To address this issue, major logistics companies in the UK are also expanding and launching new services to connect the UK with continental Europe to adapt to changing border procedures, costs and transport disruptions.

The recent resurgence of the epidemic will continue to have a counter-effect on e-commerce sales, with 26% of British people choosing to order daily necessities online. In addition, a quarter of British people have already started preparing for Christmas shopping, and taking advantage of the peak sales season in the second half of the year is a good opportunity for sellers to place orders.

Although the growth rate has declined compared to the peak period, the UK's e-commerce market still maintains a good trend. Sellers need to seize more market share based on market demand.
