A large number of Amazon sellers have been sued for violating California Proposition 65!

Recently, a large number of Amazon US sellers said that they were sued for violating California's Proposition 65. The reason was that the products they sold contained harmful chemicals, but they did not post corresponding warning labels, which violated the relevant content of Proposition 65.

California Proposition 65, enacted in 1986, is primarily intended to protect California residents and drinking water sources from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other hazards. It also requires sellers to inform consumers truthfully when using products containing harmful chemicals and to post corresponding warning labels .

As of now, California Proposition 65 covers all products sold in California, including jewelry, cosmetics, textiles, furniture, metal products, toys, youth products, and electronic and electrical products that we often come into contact with .

Previously, a large number of Chinese sellers were deprived of their sales privileges and their related accounts were frozen for violating California Proposition 65, which attracted the attention of many sellers. Sellers should note that even if they are not involved in the case, if the products they are selling are related to California Proposition 65, they must attach clear and reasonable warning labels.

California Proposition 65, released in June of this year , updated warnings on food, consumer products and personal care products.

Consumer product notifications are mostly related to phthalates ( DEHP, DINP and DBP) in most flexible plastic products , such as cosmetic bags, boxes, handles, wallets, bath mats and other miscellaneous flexible plastic products we are familiar with . The second is ceramics, fishing bait and other consumer products containing lead . Finally, hexavalent chromium in leather , especially leather gloves and flasks containing lead , need to be affixed with warning labels.

In the personal care product notification, asbestos in cosmetics (blush and bronzer) requires a warning label, and diethanolamine in soaps and sunscreen products requires a warning label.

Therefore, sellers of products related to California Proposition 65 need to affix relevant warning labels based on the harmful chemicals contained in the products to avoid receiving violation notices and being threatened with lawsuits in California courts.
