A large number of accounts have been blocked. Why is Amazon cracking down on paid review requests?

In recent times, the cross-border industry has been unpredictable, and many industry big sellers have been blocked one after another, causing many sellers to tremble with fear. It is understood that the reason for the blockage is more because some merchants take advantage of consumer psychology and attach paid reviews to buyers in the product packaging, which violates the platform rules.

Fake reviews are nothing new, but Amazon has recently taken a tough stance on this issue, taking bold measures and ruthlessly banning sellers who are believed to use this tactic. It is understood that this is likely related to a recent Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation in the UK , the main goal of which is to determine whether Amazon is doing enough to deal with fake reviews. Companies such as RAVPower, Taotronics and Vava have all been removed from the list due to paid review requests.

The CMA's investigation is not just focused on Amazon, but also involves Google, both of which have come under scrutiny for not taking enough action to stop fake reviews. Judging from the situation in which many merchants have been blocked one after another, Amazon may be trying to evade investigation accusations by hitting these companies.

The investigation could end in two ways: Either Amazon formally commits to continue taking action against these sellers, or the CMA can take the company to court. But Amazon's approach is that it will take the investigation seriously either way.

According to the communication guide between buyers and sellers disclosed on Amazon's official website, if the seller's sales behavior violates the following rules, Amazon will impose penalties for violations.

Specific prohibited content includes:

Marketing or promotional communications, including coupons.

Messages that incentivize or persuade customers to submit positive product reviews or seller feedback, including offers of compensation, monetary incentives, gift cards, free or discounted items, refunds, rebates or compensation, or future offers.

Messages requesting that an existing product review be removed or changed.

Messages asking buyers to review a product only if they had a positive experience with the product.

Repeated requests (for each order) for product reviews or seller feedback.

Under such circumstances, if more Amazon sellers do not clean up their behavior and strictly abide by the platform rules, their accounts may be quickly blocked by Amazon .

Of course, the measures taken by the CMA are aimed at ensuring a fair market environment for businesses and that from a consumer perspective, whether on Amazon or elsewhere, a sound system actually helps consumers make purchasing decisions.
