More than 33% of Germans rely on online shopping

Recently, security software company McAfee released a survey report on German consumer habits. The survey showed that although Germany's network security problems are becoming increasingly serious, Germans' enthusiasm for online businesses such as online shopping and online payments remains unabated.

37% of Germans said they relied on local shopping and online services to meet their daily needs during the 2020 pandemic. Even 21% of respondents said they took the initiative to run errands during the pandemic. In addition, more than 33% of respondents said they now prefer online shopping rather than going to physical retail stores.

Research shows that many online products have achieved sustained development during the epidemic. For example, 52% of respondents said that they received a lot of consultation push about online financial management and learned relevant knowledge on their own. But before the epidemic, more than 60% of Germans had never been exposed to investment and financial management. In addition, 72% of respondents said that even after the epidemic is over, they will conduct transactions through online banking instead of going to physical banks.

In addition, the lockdown measures taken due to the epidemic have forced people to stay at home. Online courses such as online learning and online fitness have aroused the interest of consumers, and almost 50% of the respondents said they would continue to order online courses.

The survey also shows that with the rapid popularization of e-commerce, various e-commerce platforms have emerged, which has also promoted the development of online price comparison platforms . 50% of Germans said that they often use product price comparison service platforms when shopping.

The study also revealed consumer attitudes toward security issues, with identity theft receiving significant attention.

91% of respondents are concerned about online identity theft, with 40% of Germans saying they are very concerned. They say the fear of misuse of credit card or other financial data far outweighs the fear of private data such as date of birth or address being leaked.

But overall, concerns about the misuse of financial data are mainly among older users, with 63% of respondents over 65 years old fearing the misuse of their financial data.
