A 19-month-old girl ingested a lithium-ion battery that popped out of a knockoff remote, causing permanent damage to her esophagus. Amazon is being sued by the child's mother over the defective remote. No one wants to see such an accident. However, the fact is that news about accidents caused by Amazon products is not uncommon. Previously, Yien.com has reported many tragedies such as balance bikes catching fire and exploding, and laptop batteries catching fire. The accident was closely related to the Chinese seller. It is understood that the girl's mother bought the counterfeit remote control from a third-party seller named "USA Buying". After investigation, the store was operated by a company in Shenzhen, China . After the accident, the seller also lost contact. This incident has once again put Amazon in the spotlight, and a debate has begun again over whether Amazon should be responsible for the safety of products sold by third-party sellers on its platform. Amazon argued in the Texas Supreme Court that it should not be held liable for defective products sold through its website . It merely acts as a middleman and it is "unrealistic" to expect it to check whether the millions of products on its platform meet industry standards. Last year, a court ruled that Amazon should be held responsible for defective goods. A Texas court is expected to rule on the case by June. If Amazon is found responsible, sellers may face stricter product scrutiny. Chinese sellers are at the center of the vortex and are inevitably named. When I searched for "Amazon" on an overseas forum , the first headline that came into my eyes was " Cheap, low-quality Chinese goods are flooding Amazon, making it impossible to shop there ," with as many as 50,000 comments.
In the post, the user described it this way: I used to buy products from Amazon, and I believed it could provide good brand recommendations and reviews. But now the situation is different, low-quality products and fake reviews are flooding Amazon, and shopping there is impossible. In the comments, many users also expressed their dissatisfaction with Chinese sellers and products ↓ The quality of stuff from China is so bad! Now I only buy products on Amazon if I have proof that the product was not made or shipped from China . I tried the knockoffs and gave a negative review . Since then, I have been bombarded with emails from Chinese sellers asking me to change my review every day . I find that the best way to spot knockoffs is by reading the product descriptions , as they always have obvious grammatical errors . Admittedly, this is not the view of all consumers, and it cannot generalize to all Chinese sellers. However, this has also sounded the alarm for the majority of sellers. Sellers should work harder on product safety and quality, prove the strength of Chinese products to consumers, and change the one-sided impression of Chinese sellers and products in the minds of some consumers.
