According to the latest survey data from social media platform LocalCircles , half of Indian respondents said that e-commerce websites and apps have become their preferred shopping method in the past 12 months.
The survey found that 33% of respondents bought every little thing they wanted through e-commerce, while another 29% said that more than 75% of their spending in the past 12 months was made on online platforms.
The most popular categories of goods purchased online by Indian consumers are daily necessities and groceries - 69% of respondents said they bought these items online. About 54% of respondents said they bought medium- value items related to clothes, furniture and digital devices online in the past 12 months .
While 32% of respondents answered that they purchased high- value items related to equipment, white goods and furniture.
“ The pandemic has led to faster adoption of digital channels by every customer and seller, including non-metro cities. A significant increase in value-for-money items has led to a preference among Indian consumers , who have started paying a premium for quality items , ” said a spokesperson for e-commerce platform Snapdeal .
According to 130,000 responses from more than 42,000 different customers across 358 regions in India , the preference for e-commerce among respondents is over 50%. Safety , satisfactory prices and easy returns are listed as the most important reasons that make consumers trust e-commerce more than before .
However, as online transactions become an important shopping method for Indians, problems in e-commerce have also followed.
Of all the complaints received by Indian consumers, more than 22% are related to e-commerce platforms. Most of the complaints Indian consumers have against e-commerce companies are related to counterfeit products, exchange issues and delivery delays. The most complaints from consumers are about electronic products - 112,200, almost 5% of all complaints.
The consumer base of Indian e-commerce has greatly increased, and the number of complaints has also increased. Therefore, when sellers face the huge potential market in India, they should not only make good products, but also pay attention to providing excellent shopping and after-sales services.
