Indonesia's electronic product sales soared during the epidemic

Since the outbreak of the epidemic , the demand for products on various e-commerce platforms in Indonesia has increased dramatically. A study on e-commerce consumer behavior in 2021 by MarkPlus Inc. found that in addition to fashion and beauty products , sales of electronic products have also increased on e-commerce platforms.

About 26% of the 500 respondents purchased home electronics such as microwave ovens, blenders , etc.

General Manager of Home Appliances Polytron   This was confirmed by Albert Fleming , who said: “Online sales have increased and offline sales have fallen. Sales of large household appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines have increased sharply , as have small household appliances such as blenders and microwaves .

He added: "In 2020 , sales of large household appliances on e-commerce platforms increased by 145.7% . Sales of small household appliances on e-commerce platforms increased by 29.59% . "

There are four main reasons why consumers choose to shop on e-commerce platforms: many promotions , reliable sellers , fast delivery and free delivery.

Free shipping services have increased the sales of electronic products to a certain extent . Because electronic products are large in size and the postage is expensive, consumers prefer sellers who provide free shipping services .

In addition, consumers pay great attention to the quality of products and whether the products are genuine when purchasing electronic products . Research shows that JD.ID ranks first among many e-commerce platforms , followed by Tokopedia, Lazada, Shopee, Blibli and Bukalapak.

Meanwhile, Rofi Uddarojat, head of public policy and government relations at the Indonesian E-Commerce Association ( idEA), said sales trends have returned to pre- pandemic levels.

Rofi Uddarojat said: There are still many counterfeit products on e-commerce platforms , especially electronic products. Therefore, it is particularly important to register intellectual property rights . Whether it is electronic products or other products, only when the product quality is guaranteed can consumers’ confidence in online shopping be enhanced.

The potential of Indonesia's e-commerce market is still huge, and the outbreak has directly promoted the development of the industry. Among them, the category of electronic products is particularly worthy of sellers' attention.
