Temu just opened its Japanese site a while ago . According to the latest news, Temu’s Korean site has also been officially opened, and its global layout has taken another step forward.
It is understood that Temu Korea still uses the familiar low-price marketing formula, including providing new members with coupons worth up to 37,700 won (US$30) and offering discounts of up to 10% on some products for a limited time. This strategy is effective. Last year, it was this low-price approach that helped Temu climb to the top of Google and Apple's free app rankings in the United States.
According to foreign media reports, Temu is currently working with third-party service providers in South Korea to provide "last mile" logistics and delivery services to local customers.
Prior to this, Temu launched its Japanese site on July 1, marking the official debut of the app in Asia. Currently, Temu is the number one shopping app in the Japanese iOS store.
Although Temu did not reveal at the time that its next destination was Asia, in June it sent out a survey to sellers asking which e-commerce platforms they were using in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.
In South Korea, Temu will have to contend with competition from other domestic shopping platforms, such as fast-fashion giant Shein, which ranked fourth among iOS shopping apps in South Korea as of Tuesday, and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s AliExpress. AliExpress has also found a foothold in South Korea, with its user base growing by more than 150% in three years to 2.9 million as of April, according to Forbes Korea.
Beyond Japan and South Korea, a push into Southeast Asia would represent a new direction for Temu. To date, the app has targeted customers primarily in wealthier economies where low-cost products made by Chinese manufacturers offer a clear price advantage over local competitors.
As domestic market revenue slows down, the giants are turning their attention to overseas markets. It looks like the situation of giants competing for the market will soon emerge again, but this time the battlefield will be in a different place. Temu South Korea |
