Amazon CEO says layoffs will continue until 2023

It is reported that Amazon announced last Thursday that its annual personnel adjustment plan will be extended to next year, when more jobs will be cut and some leadership positions will also be adjusted.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy notified employees in an internal letter last Thursday that Amazon will lay off employees again sometime in early 2023, according to people familiar with the matter .

Jassy also added that Amazon is in the process of adjusting its annual operating plan , and relevant departments will make adjustments based on the specific circumstances of their business .

At present , although Amazon has not disclosed how many jobs will be cut in the future , it has made it clear that it will "cut some positions in departments such as personnel and technology . " Amazon said it will notify employees affected by the layoffs early next year .

An employee who claimed to be a software development engineer at Amazon posted that she was looking for a new job: "Due to visa reasons , I have very limited time to find new job opportunities . "

Another Amazon employee who said he was also affected by the layoffs said: "Of course I am sad, but I am optimistic about the future because I know it may be good for other people on my team . "

Last Wednesday, Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon's devices and services division , said some employees in his department would also be laid off, and insiders said Amazon had expanded the job buyouts to the entire company .

A report in foreign media stated that before Amazon executives publicly announced the layoff information, its layoff plan had always been carried out privately , and judging from the internal letter from Amazon CEO , this practice seems to continue.

Andy Jassy wrote in an internal letter , " As was the case this week, in the future we will prioritize communicating directly with affected employees before making public or internal announcements . " According to Jassy , Amazon will try to find suitable positions within the company for those affected by the layoffs . If no positions are found, employees will also receive severance pay.

The New York Times reported last Monday that Amazon plans to lay off about 10,000 employees. When the New York Times contacted Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser for comment, Glasser said Amazon had nothing to share other than what was in Jassy's internal letter .

It is understood that Amazon suspended its recruitment plans and warehouse expansion earlier this year, which shows that it has already anticipated that such a situation may occur in the future.
