Online sales increased 800% year-on-year! Brookshire Brothers expands omnichannel services

Texas -based grocery chain Brookshire Brothers now offers delivery and curbside pickup for online orders at 24 locations , and plans to increase that number to 55.

The retailer's head of e-commerce, Corry Lankford , said as the coronavirus pandemic continues , more consumers are viewing grocery e-commerce as an essential service.

 

In 2020 , at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak , Brookshire Brothers' online sales increased 700% to 800% year-over-year .

 

For the full year, Brookshire Brothers ' online growth was about 400% higher than in 2019.

 

Lankford said the pandemic has driven relevant consumer demands and industry trends, and Brookshire Brothers is expanding online grocery ordering, curbside pickup and delivery services in more and more stores .

 

Brookshire Brothers expands omnichannel offerings

 

Lankford said Brookshire Brothers partnered with Rosie to offer grocery e-commerce services in Lufkin and many other local markets, ahead of rival companies such as Walmart and HEB.

 

Brookshire Brothers offered e-commerce services in seven of its 116 stores at the end of 2019. When the pandemic hit, the retailer saw a huge increase in online orders, and company leaders realized it should expand its online presence to more locations.

 

Brookshire Brothers currently offers delivery and curbside pickup for online orders at 24 locations , and the retailer plans to launch e-commerce services at 31 more stores in 2021 and early 2022 , bringing the total to 55.

 

Typically, Brookshire Brothers launches no more than one or two e-commerce campaigns per week because the retailer takes extra time to train and ensure its employees meet high standards, something Lankford credits with helping it achieve e-commerce success.

 

E-commerce channels become the key

 

Lankford also said that since the beginning of 2020, e-commerce has become an essential channel for many shoppers.

 

At the same time, in the increasingly competitive online grocery industry, the key to success is differentiation, and Brookshire Brothers hopes to stand out from its peers through its related plans.

 

The rapid development of e-commerce has accelerated the transformation of various industries, and expanding omni-channel services has also become an important measure for major retailers to compete for market share and increase sales.
