What is Stripe

Stripe is a technology company that enables individuals or companies to accept payments on the Internet. It provides the technology needed to accept payments online, avoid credit card fraud, and provide banking infrastructure.

About Stripe

Companies that provide the service are charged 2.9% of each transaction plus a 30-cent processing fee.

Security and Compliance

All card numbers are encrypted on disk using AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on different computers. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in separate hosting infrastructure and does not share any credentials with Stripe’s main services.

Compliance: PCI DSS Level 1 certification; SSAE18/SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports; US MTL license; Australian AFSL, European E-Money License and Canadian MSB license; PSD2 and SCA compliance.

In May 2011, Stripe received $2 million from investor Peter Thiel and investment firms Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.

-In February 2012, Stripe received $1.8 million in Series A funding led by Sequoia Capital, with a valuation of $100 million.

-In March 2013, Stripe acquired task management app Kickoff.

-In March 2014, CEO Patrick Collison announced that Stripe would support Bitcoin payments.
