Amazon's banned word review is upgraded, will a large number of listings be affected?

In recent times, Amazon's actions have been one after another.

In addition to the strict CPC inspections that have made sellers nervous , there are also new logistics regulations such as " 90% on-time delivery rate " and new advertising management fees. A series of policy changes are very frequent.

Recently, Amazon released a notice about the "new rules for banned words" in the background. Some sellers said that the requirements are particularly strict this time, and they may be the next one whose listing is forced to be deleted .

The notice mentioned that in order to simplify and improve the product details page for buyers, Amazon will update the existing five-point description requirements for products starting from August 15, 2024. Among them, the more important ones are the restrictions on special characters, emoticons and some phrases.

The editor learned that sellers often added some emoticons and special characters to attract consumers to click when describing products. However, after the new regulations are implemented, adding such symbols will be considered a violation, and the listing is likely to be blocked or automatically tampered with by the system.

Specifically, these banned words include special characters such as ™, ®, €, …, +, ≠, 0, 中, £, ¥, ©, ±, ~, â, etc.; any emoticons ; ASIN numbers or the following words , such as Not Applicable, NA, n/a, N/A, Not Qualified, Pending, Pending, Pending, Pending, Pending; phrases , such as Eco-Friendly, Environmentally Friendly, Antimicrobial, Antibacterial, Made of Bamboo, Contains Bamboo, Made of Soy, Contains Soy, etc.; guarantee information , such as Full Refund, Return It If You Are Not Satisfied, Unconditional Guarantee, No Limits; as well as company information, website links, external hyperlinks, or any contact information .

In addition, sellers should also use words such as "environmental protection", "eco-friendly", "green", and "anti-microbial" with caution.

Regarding the new regulations, Amazon said that sellers can avoid misleading and deceptive expressions by using clear and unambiguous language. At the same time, this will also help buyers quickly understand the advantages of the products, judge whether they meet their needs, and decide whether to buy them.

There is another point that sellers must pay attention to. If the product description does not meet the requirements, Amazon will delete it and use AI to force modification.

However, the changed content will not be published directly to the product information , but will be reviewed by the seller first . If the seller does not provide feedback before the deadline in the lower left corner, the listing will be modified by default. But if the seller feels that it is unreasonable, he should select "Do not accept" in the feedback column and submit it , so that Amazon will not automatically tamper with it .

In recent years, there have been more and more cases of sellers suffering losses due to the misuse of banned words , which has led some people to rely on AI to operate their products. However, it must be said that compared to carefully designing keywords by yourself, AI-generated content is not necessarily conducive to platform algorithm recommendations.

Therefore, sellers must check the five points of product description according to Amazon’s requirements before August 15, and delete restricted symbols and words in a timely manner to avoid forced modification of the listing or reduction in weight, which will cause a decline in order volume .
