Recently, Temu, which is famous for its low prices, has been caught up in a public opinion storm overseas because a product sold by it caused an 11-year-old girl to be severely burned, so that she had to undergo skin grafting surgery.
The story dates back to early December.
The girl bought a nail polish in Temu with her own pocket money with the help of her father . According to her mother, when the girl was painting her nails with the nail polish after the product arrived, the nail polish dripped onto her hand and flowed down her little finger.
The girl then told her mother that her hands felt hot, so the woman soaked her daughter's hands in water for 20 minutes. When she woke up the next day, blisters appeared on her hands. Shortly after the girl went to school, her mother received a call and learned that the blisters on her child's hands had become larger and sent her to the hospital.
Ten days after the initial visit, the doctor looked at the healing of the girl's wound and said that the girl needed a skin graft. The girl's mother said in an interview that her child's burns healed well, but such dangerous goods should not be on the market. For this reason, the girl's father contacted Temu and asked Temu to explain the accident.
A Temu spokesperson first expressed sympathy for the girl's injuries, but also said that the product did state that it should be kept out of the reach of children. For the girl's unfortunate experience, Temu decided to provide the family with a credit line of £1,500 as compensation.
The girl's family also sought legal advice, but were told that the goods were sold by third-party sellers through the Temu platform, making it almost impossible to find the seller.
When asked by the media whether she would consider shopping at Temu again, the girl's mother said: "Absolutely not. I want to know why Temu sells this kind of goods. I think this kind of goods has not been tested."
According to inquiries, the nail polish that injured the girl is mainly composed of cyanoacrylate , which is known for its strong adhesiveness. Nail polish is mainly used to stick artificial nails, fix nail tips, repair nails and do manicures , and is also a popular product on many e-commerce platforms .
It is reported that although cyanoacrylate generally does not cause harm when it comes into contact with the skin, there are reports of this substance reacting with materials such as cotton and wool and then causing burns. Temu Product Quality |
