Buy a new sofa for $50! Amazon and Walmart returns are popular on TikTok

A new way of shopping has emerged in the United States recently - flocking to bin stores across the country to buy returned goods from Amazon and Walmart.

As this shopping model has taken off, so too have bin stores, which sell merchandise that has been returned from online marketplaces like Amazon and Walmart and deemed unsaleable. So, it can be said that these products have been given a new life in some places.

According to the National Retail Federation ( NRF), Americans returned $816 billion worth of merchandise last year, and these junk stores buy up the merchandise and resell it at a fraction of the price.

According to foreign media reports, these products range from children's toys to iPads and their electronic accessories to other electronic products. The starting price of each item is generally around $10, but over time, these items will become cheaper. In addition, customers can also purchase "blind boxes" starting at $15, and what is inside depends entirely on personal luck.

Not only are they popular offline, these stores, named " Crazy Bins," " Hot Bin " and " Bargain Bins , " also have a large number of fans on social media platforms such as TikTok .

Many TikTok users have posted photos of the products they bought from these stores.

For example, a TikToker with 171,000 followers showed her fans a mysterious blind box she bought for $50, which contained a brand new black sofa, which was a returned item from Walmart.

She said it was her first time going into a store like this where all the items were returned from places like Amazon, but they were all new.

Another social media user also shared photos of items he found in a junk store, including a night light, a tray, and a headband, each of which cost only $4.

One Chicago psychologist who participated said she calls this style of shopping dumpster diving , and that for her it's more about " the thrill of finding something ."

In addition, according to media reports, many people who purchased these returned goods will resell them and then get a certain amount of compensation from them.
