Korean media: AliExpress grows rapidly, driving South Korea's cross-border e-commerce transaction volume to a record high

According to Korean media reports, China's cross-border e-commerce platform AliExpress has set off a "cross-border shopping" craze in South Korea, driving South Korea's cross-border e-commerce transaction volume to an all-time high.

 

The latest data released by Statistics Korea on August 1 showed that in the second quarter of this year, South Korea's cross-border e-commerce transaction volume increased by 25.6% to 163.5 billion won , setting a new record since relevant statistics were collected in 2014. Among them, the transaction volume from China increased the most, more than double the same period last year , with a total of 77.78 billion won .

 

According to Korean media and industry analysis, the surge in cross-border e-commerce transaction volume mainly comes from AliExpress.

In March this year , AliExpress launched the Choice service in South Korea and hired actor Ma Dong-seok as its spokesperson , launching large-scale advertising and marketing, which quickly carved out a niche in the Korean e-commerce market. In the first half of this year, AliExpress's user growth and cross-user usage time both surpassed Coupang .

 

This is not the first time that AliExpress has broken a record since entering the Korean market. In March this year , AliExpress broke the record of Carrot Community dominating the Korean shopping app download list for three consecutive years and became the "big brother" of Korean shopping apps. Some media even bluntly stated that AliExpress has surpassed the first generation of Korean e-commerce platforms.
