Is the order volume flat? Or you can seize the big promotion opportunity in this market

Is the order volume flat? Or you can seize the big promotion opportunity in this market

Recently, according to a study conducted by the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and Roy Morgan , approximately 6.2 million Australians will shop during the local mid-year promotion in 2022 , spending an average of A$1,420 (about RMB 6,804) per person , and total spending will reach A$8.8 billion (about RMB 42.2 billion) .

It is understood that Australia has two shopping seasons every year, one in June, which is also the end of the Australian fiscal year ( July to June of the following year ) , and the other in December, the end of the calendar year .

Twice a year, major shopping malls launch the "half year sale", and Australian consumers also seize this discount promotion to start shopping. Now, with the rise of online shopping, major e-commerce platforms are also following the local trend and joining this promotion season.

According to the research report, of the A$8.8 billion in mid-year sales , A$3.2 billion ( about RMB 15.3 billion ) will come from New South Wales , A$1.9 billion ( about RMB 9.1 billion ) will come from Victoria , and A$1.7 billion ( about RMB 8.1 billion ) will come from Queensland.

The vast majority ( 83%) of consumers who plan to spend during the mid-year sale said their sale budget will be the same or increase compared to last year .

Research shows that more than half ( 52%) of consumers planning to buy during the mid-year sales will shop online. Compared with women ( AUD 958 ), men will have stronger spending power, with an average spending of AUD 1,778 ( about RMB 8,519 ) per person .

According to the NAB Online Retail Sales Index, online sales in Australia shrank again in April (1.3%), following a 0.3% contraction in March. Not only in Australia, but also in major online sales markets around the world this year, due to inflation, supply chain crises and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the performance of major e-commerce platforms in the first quarter of 2022 also reflects their decline.

It is reported that the toy category performed well in the Australian online market in April this year , and it is expected that this category will continue to perform well in the mid-year promotion .

Statistics show that in the past year , Australia 's total online consumption was 56.89 billion Australian dollars ( about 272.6 billion yuan ) , accounting for 15.1% of the total retail trade , an increase of 19.6% year-on-year . This shows that Australians ' online consumption has grown strongly .

The North American and European markets have always been the top destinations for cross-border sellers. But as competition in these two markets intensifies, are sellers considering other markets at the same time? Not long ago, SHEIN opened its first pop-up store in Australia in Melbourne, following its expansion in economically prosperous cities in Europe and the United States such as New York and London, in an attempt to expand its presence in the Australian market. Does this also mean that this online market has a promising future?

The mid-year sale is not only a great time for Australian buyers to buy goods , but also an opportunity for sellers to clear out their inventory or have a surge in sales.
