Resist malicious returns! Amazon will limit the accounts of buyers who frequently return goods

For sellers on major platforms, it is common for products to be returned by buyers , but many stores have encountered malicious returns from buyers , especially in the current market environment of rising fuel prices and soaring logistics costs. Once a return occurs, the seller will suffer greater losses.

In order to reduce malicious returns, some retailers and e-commerce platforms are adjusting their return policies .

Recently, Amazon announced that it will restrict or directly close the accounts of buyers who make repeated returns.

If buyers on the platform return 5-10 times a month, or even more, they will receive a warning from Amazon. The platform will evaluate each account individually and may directly close the accounts of these buyers.

Sellers on Amazon know that Amazon has always adhered to the principle of customer first . As long as the product and outer packaging remain intact and all accessories are complete within the 30-day validity period of product delivery , Amazon can provide a full return service.

Therefore, many buyers abuse Amazon's return policy and return the wrong products to defraud compensation from Amazon . According to foreign media reports, a buyer maliciously defrauded the refund of more than 270 items on the Amazon platform , causing huge losses to the seller.

The return policy recently implemented by Amazon will effectively reduce malicious returns and reduce sellers’ losses caused by returns.

Unlike Amazon, some retailers and e-commerce platforms choose to charge return fees.

Zara has adjusted its return policy for more than 30 markets around the world . For items purchased online, customers must pay 1.95 euros to return the items online, and the fee will be deducted from the refund.

Japan's Uniqlo began charging fees for online returns in some markets in March last year . For example, in the UK, a return fee of 2.95 pounds is charged ; in Australia, if the return is made by post , the fee is as high as $8.

The German e-commerce platform Zalando announced in 2019 that it would charge customers additional return fees. The platform said the move was to prevent individual buyers from making profits through returns.

In addition to the implementation of corresponding return policies by platforms and retailers, sellers can also take precautions in advance to address the problem of malicious returns. For example, they can print tamper-proof labels on products and outer packaging , and systematically check all products and take photos before each shipment to prevent fraud. In addition, when signing for the goods, they can use signature + photo confirmation to avoid buyers saying that they have not received the goods.

If you encounter a buyer with bad behavior, you must collect evidence, intervene through the platform, and firmly defend your rights!
