Amazon UK bans MFG sellers from listing age-restricted knife products

According to British law , some blade products must be verified for age when sold to consumers, and minors are not allowed to buy offensive knives, including kitchen knives for cutting vegetables and meat.

Recently, Amazon issued an announcement regarding such products.

Amazon UK bans MFG sellers from listing age-restricted knives

Amazon UK announced that it will no longer allow self-delivery sellers to list certain knives with age restrictions on the platform. The regulation will take effect from May 19.

At present, although Amazon UK still allows the sale of these knives, sellers who only have self-delivery methods are prohibited from listing such age-restricted products.

When selling such products on Amazon, the age of the consumer must be verified first. If the consumer is under 21 years old, they need to sign for the item upon delivery and note their ID.

It is worth noting that sellers can verify age on Amazon Europe by using documents such as passport, driver’s license, ID card and immigration documents.

If a seller wants to sell razor blades on Amazon, they must use Amazon FBA to sell them. But even if they use Amazon FBA to sell, sellers must ensure that their products are clearly marked with "not for sale to persons under 18 years of age."

One seller expressed dissatisfaction with the announcement released by Amazon because the butter knives he was selling were marked "Not for sale to persons under 18 years of age" but were still blocked by Amazon from being put on the shelves. In addition, the kitchen knives clearly mentioned in the Amazon announcement were also complained about by sellers because knives are also one of the tableware of Europeans.

In addition to knives, what other products on Amazon have age restrictions?

Amazon has always been very cautious about the sale of products that are prohibited by policy, and has issued relevant policies before.

At present, in addition to knife products, other products that are restricted from sale on the Amazon platform due to age issues include: alcohol, adult products, cigarettes, glue, etc. When selling these products on Amazon, sellers need to follow platform regulations and do a good job of product labeling.

In order to protect minors in various countries, sellers of these products should check Amazon platform announcements in a timely manner and mark their products as “not for sale to minors”.
