Sales surged 6 times! Electric scooters become the new favorite of Russians

According to foreign media reports, Russia has sold about 350,000 electric scooters since the beginning of 2021, far higher than the 130,000 units in the same period last year, an increase of 2.7 times year-on-year.

Data shows that in the first nine months of 2021, the sales of electric scooters on AliExpress in Russia increased more than sixfold, and on Ozon, Russia's largest comprehensive e-commerce platform, the demand for electric scooters quadrupled. And most consumers choose to buy online .

In Russia, the sales of electric scooters account for 38% of the market. Consumers' shopping expenditures and preferences vary on different platforms. On Ozon, electric scooters priced between 19,000 and 20,000 rubles are the most popular; while on Svyaznoy, a well-known Russian online electronics retailer, the public demand is in the price range of 40,000 to 55,000 rubles.

It is understood that Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, has also stated that electric scooters are one of the best-selling products on the platform this summer. The region with the highest demand is the Ulyanovsk region, where consumer purchasing power increased by 158%, followed by Chuvash Oblast, which increased by 134%, and Buryatia, which increased by 124%.

Due to urban traffic congestion, more and more people in Russia choose electric scooters to travel. Russian people said that using electric scooters to travel can shorten commuting time and avoid traffic congestion. Therefore, in Russia, not only has the sales of electric scooters increased significantly, but the usage rate of shared electric scooters has also greatly increased.

"Sberbank Insurance" and the "Rambler" portal jointly conducted a survey with 2,500 participants. Nearly 60% of Russians hope to use electric scooters or electric balance cars in the long term to replace public transportation. About 12% of the respondents said they plan to buy scooters in the near future. Nearly 20% said they have already bought electric scooters since they became popular.

Although in the first half of 2021, the number of accidents involving electric scooters in Russia rose from 160 to 266 , and the number of accidents involving children rose from 21 to 38, with a total of 188 people injured to varying degrees, Russians' interest in electric scooters has not diminished. In addition, according to industry insiders, the Russian government will also allocate 75 million rubles for the development of electric scooter rentals.
