Mother's Day spending in the UK will reach £1.49 billion in 2022! Social media becomes the vane of gift giving

According to data analysis by Savvy's , consumer spending around Mother's Day in the UK will soar 11% compared to the same period last year , with total sales expected to reach 1.49 billion pounds.

Savvy's believes that the increase in product prices caused by inflation is an important reason for the increase in total spending . At the same time, more and more consumers plan to buy high-quality food and beverages on Mother's Day , which is also a major driving factor for the increase in spending on Mother's Day in the UK .

Savvy's research shows that after record spending on Valentine's Day last month, sales spending on Mother's Day, Father's Day and Easter will also see strong growth in the coming months.

Of those planning to buy a gift for their mother, about half plan to buy flowers and 42% plan to buy chocolate.

In addition, personalized gifts are becoming more and more popular among consumers . 65 % of Mother's Day shoppers will choose to buy gifts for their mothers online , and this proportion rises to 68 % among young consumers under the age of 35. In addition, 67% of Mother's Day shoppers believe that existing products are boring and lack inspiration , and more than half of them said that they would be happy to spend more money if there were better gift options .

In addition to personalized gifts , 65% of Mother's Day buyers also hope to buy sustainable gifts. For young shoppers, social media is becoming an increasingly important source of inspiration for choosing gifts . Nearly half of young consumers said they plan to buy Mother's Day gifts they see on social media . Sellers can also use social media as a reference for product selection.

At the same time, although pubs and restaurants in the UK have fully reopened, rising prices and a high incidence of coronavirus cases mean that most consumers will celebrate Mother's Day at home.

Catherine Shuttleworth, CEO and founder of Savvy, said: “As the cost of living increases in the UK , shoppers will become more vigilant in their spending priorities and Brits will take advantage of festive occasions to get together with friends and family .
