Amazon opens new office in India with capacity for 6,000 people

Recently, Amazon announced that it will build a new office in Tamil Nadu, India. This is Amazon’s fourth office in the local area and also the largest.

 

The new office space, which occupies approximately 830,000 square feet over 18 floors at the World Trade Center, brings the company’s total office space in the state to 2.1 million square feet. The new office features small meeting rooms, a wellness room, an interfaith prayer room, recreational spaces and a 24-hour multi-cuisine food court available to all employees.

 

The office area can accommodate approximately 6,000 employees, including employees in Amazon Web Services, technical support, engineering, equipment, and other positions , as well as teams responsible for the company's most important innovations .

 

Amazon started its operations in Tamil Nadu in 2005 with 50 employees in Chennai. Today, it has more than 14,000 employees, making it a key location for Amazon’s people and business strategy. Multiple technology, engineering, devices, and operations teams operate out of the company’s office in Chennai , contributing to significant innovations in Amazon device development .

 

Amazon has invested heavily in the state's fulfillment infrastructure . According to a press release issued by the company , Amazon has four fulfillment centers and three sorting centers in the state , providing job opportunities for tens of thousands of young people in the state. In addition , in 2021, Amazon established its first equipment manufacturing unit in Chennai, India.

The new office reaffirms our growth and commitment to the state, and we will continue to expand and invest in our employee base in the region to serve our customers and enhance their experience .

 

In addition to Europe and the United States, India is also an important market for Amazon's global e-commerce. By continuously increasing infrastructure construction, Amazon can further enhance its competitiveness in the local market.
