2022 Streetwear Trends: Preppy Retro and Outdoor Styles to Watch

2022 Streetwear Trends: Preppy Retro and Outdoor Styles to Watch

After the epidemic quarantine, many people mainly wear home clothes. As the quarantine policy is relaxed, people gradually return to society, social occasions increase, and people pay more attention to clothing for going out.

Gorpcore and preppy are two styles that will influence streetwear trends in 2022, according to a new report .

Preppy originally meant "a well-educated preppy student" in American slang, but over time it has become synonymous with typical Ivy League style ; while gorpcore refers to a mix-and-match fashion style inspired by outdoor sportswear and outdated elements.

That is to say, college-style fashion items such as college jackets, sweater vests, polo shirts and loafers will be reflected in both men's and women's clothing. Technical fabrics and functional everyday items promote the popularity of gorpcore , such as windbreakers, vests, overalls, etc., which are all styles worthy of sellers' attention.

While gorpcore and preppy are not new, they are expected to continue to influence future fashion.

Specific style forecasts show that overalls are shifting towards a looser and more comfortable style, with more pockets expected to be added. For women, satin fabrics and bold colors will be the main considerations for designers, and Y2K trend elements will also be incorporated .

Vests and outdoor vests are the "unified" styles in streetwear for both men and women . Wave stitching and collarless designs are among the most popular styles in 2021. Down vests are more popular in citrus tones or color blocks such as plaid and camouflage. So similar styles are expected to continue to be popular in 2022.

It is worth noting that sportswear will still receive a lot of attention in 2022. Brighter colors, color matching, loose silhouettes, neutral designs, etc. are all popular styles of sportswear. Drawstrings, tape zippers and reflective fabrics are important elements.

For children’s streetwear, gender-neutral styles and sustainable designs will be featured.

In terms of overall clothing elements, elements that emphasize neutral charm, such as knitted textures, casual silhouettes and V-necks, can be focused on. Brands and retailers can consider using non-traditional fabrics such as fleece and knitted sweatshirts to make sweater vests, which can attract consumers' attention and promote purchases.

In general, people's dressing style will tend to be more formal after socializing, but the demand for comfortable and loose clothing will still exist. Therefore, sellers can pay more attention and consider more when selecting products to select the fashion items that best suit consumers' tastes.
