On January 6, Alibaba International Station, together with Tsinghua University and other universities, jointly launched the first cross-border e-commerce overseas student talent creation camp competition. The purpose is to further discover and cultivate cross-border e-commerce talents, especially to explore a systematic talent training model and path, and to cultivate overseas students who are urgently needed in the industry. The first cross-border e-commerce overseas student talent creation camp competition was held in Beijing, which belongs to the northern region of Alibaba International Station. It will be held in Shenzhen, Shanghai and other places in the future.

 

 

Alibaba International Station, the organizer of this competition, is the world's largest cross-border B2B e-commerce platform, with sellers from more than 140 countries and regions around the world and buyers from more than 200 countries and regions. As early as 2015, Alibaba International Station launched a cross-border e-commerce talent training project, mainly for college students to provide professional training such as cross-border e-commerce operations. At the beginning of 2020, the Ministry of Education's vocational training "1+X" project confirmed that Alibaba International Station is the exclusive training and evaluation organization for cross-border e-commerce B2B data operation talents. So far, Alibaba International Station has cooperated with 513 universities across the country, and has trained more than 350,000 cross-border e-commerce professionals. At the same time, it will also promote the construction of an overseas talent pool.


As the organizer, Tsinghua Zhaofeng (Beijing) Cultural Development Co., Ltd. is responsible for the operation and management of the competition, including the selection of contestants and technical guidance. It will also rely on Tsinghua Wanbo and TusStar's many years of experience in incubating entrepreneurial talents, and link the support of local science and technology park investment funds and talent policies.


This cross-border e-commerce overseas student talent creation camp competition is a new attempt by Alibaba International Station to cultivate cross-border e-commerce talents. The competition has set up two major awards, the "Talent Award" and the "Big Shot Award", with 3 Talent Awards and 1 Big Shot Award. In addition to receiving certificates of honor, the winners of the two awards will also receive an additional cash prize of 10,000 to encourage them to join the cross-border e-commerce industry. After establishing a company, all award-winning contestants will have the opportunity to join Qingmei Zhaofeng's live broadcast entrepreneurship acceleration growth plan to serve the massive customer merchants of Alibaba International Station and further promote economic integration between China and foreign countries.

 

 

At present, after the recommendation of candidates and interview screening by major universities in the early stage, 20 contestants have successfully stood out from more than 100 candidates and obtained the official qualification to participate. These 20 contestants come from more than 10 countries including Cameroon, Rwanda, South Africa, and many domestic universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Beijing University of Science and Technology. They are all versatile. They not only have fluent spoken English and are proficient in short video shooting and editing skills, but also have cheerful and lively personalities, strong expressiveness and camera sense, and are good at driving the audience's atmosphere through the camera while facilitating transactions. It is worth mentioning that several of these contestants are cultural ambassadors.


These contestants will also go through preliminary and final rounds. The preliminary round is a 20-to-10 elimination round . The final round will be decided among the 10 contestants who stand out in the preliminary round. The content of the competition requires contestants to publish high-quality short video content in their personal accounts on Alibaba International Station. Potential cross-border e-commerce experts will be selected based on the user playback volume, likes, comments, number of fans and consumption comprehensive data indicators of the contestants' videos.

As an important part of digital trade, cross-border e-commerce is promoting the arrival of the era of global digital trade. As the economy is globalizing, talents are also globalizing. The cross-border e-commerce overseas student talent creation camp competition will continue to supply the cross-border e-commerce industry with urgently needed emerging professional talents.
