Millions of people shopped on e-commerce platforms during this holiday shopping season, and with it came a surge in online fraud. According to foreign media reports, as early as last week, some email scams attempted to trick consumers into handing over their personal data. Recently, new online fraud has struck.
According to Express.co.uk , scammers have used the official name of Amazon to defraud users of platforms such as Gmail and Outlook . Many Amazon users have received emails from "Amazon" in their mailboxes , threatening that their accounts will be suspended.
The email content shows: Your Amazon account and all transactions will be suspended. The reason for our action is that there is a problem with the billing information you provided. To resolve this issue, you need to click on the link to update the relevant information of your account.
After opening the link, it will jump to a website that is very similar to the Amazon page. If you enter your personal information on the website, it will cause information leakage and threaten your account security. Express.co.uk said that it has confirmed that the email is a scam. Although the email looks like it was sent by Amazon, it is easy to see that the real address has nothing to do with Amazon .
Amazon also says on its security page : "If you receive an email that claims to be from Amazon but looks suspicious, it may be a phishing email."
" These messages contain a link to a website that looks like Amazon.com, but it is not a legitimate site. The site may ask for your Amazon username and password or attempt to install unwanted software on your computer. If you receive a message like this, do not open any attachments or click on any links . Delete it immediately .
As the number of online shoppers increases, frauds targeting e-commerce platforms are also increasing. According to the cybersecurity company Proofpoint, the number of frauds discovered this year is ten times higher than last year. Whether you are a seller or a consumer on an e-commerce platform, you must raise your awareness of prevention. Do not trust external links easily and protect your information security.
