Amazon's Florida factory has more robots than workers

Amazon has long been criticized for monitoring employee working hours and processes, and now Amazon factories have begun to use robots for work.

Pembroke Park , Florida — known as the first site to receive Amazon's robot deliveries — was revealed on Thursday, and Local 10 got an exclusive tour of the prime location on Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

“This is a completely different system than what we’ve had before,” said Paul Clemons, operations manager.

In a streamlined process, Amazon ’s gray delivery vehicles arrive and are ready to load the first wave onto the cue pads around 8 a.m. The drivers then head out to deliver their assigned packages within a 45-mile radius of the site .

The more than 300 machines, called drivers, can carry up to a thousand pounds of packages. The robots are activated by releasing the pods with a button , a highly organized system that delivers packages to designated destinations .

Currently , there are 60 employees operating here around the clock , and there are more than 300 robots. Pembroke Park Mayor Jeffrey Jacobs said that there has been no new development project in Pembroke Park for a long time.

There were reports earlier that Amazon caused a traffic accident because it was fully monitoring whether the delivery driver delivered the package to the destination quickly. The man who was hit was paralyzed as a result of the car accident, and Amazon was also involved in a lawsuit for this.

The strict monitoring regulations and work systems really put a lot of pressure on Amazon employees. With the introduction of robots to participate in Amazon's package transportation, Amazon can reduce the number of employees it employs.

Moreover, with the arrival of the peak season, there is a serious shortage of people in many positions in the United States. Now that robots are online, employee hiring costs can be greatly reduced.
