Global e-commerce sales ranking: Fashion ranks first with 760 billion US dollars!

Global e-commerce sales ranking: Fashion ranks first with 760 billion US dollars!

The two most anticipated shopping promotions at the end of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, have come to an end, and sales data from various platforms have been released one after another.

Recently, the application Oberlo ranked the sales of categories in the global e-commerce market based on a survey. This ranking provides direction for corporate sellers in their subsequent product selection and sales.

Fashion is the most sold category in the e-commerce market. This year, consumers will spend nearly $760 billion on fashion through online shopping . Fashion accounts for more than 25% of the total online shopping expenditure of global consumers , and this figure is expected to continue to increase.

In second place is the toys and DIY category. It is expected that online spending in this category will exceed $590.7 billion in 2021. Due to the surge in unemployment during the epidemic and the quarantine measures, people have spent more time at home, and many people have used toys and handmade DIY to pass the time. As a result, the sales of this category have increased significantly in recent years.

The third category is media products, which are expected to have sales of $542.2 billion this year . Data shows that home entertainment consumer spending increased by 10% in the first quarter, with the bulk of spending coming from subscription streaming.

The fourth place is the food and personal care category, with sales expected to reach $468.5 billion. First of all, the replacement cycle of these daily necessities is relatively short, and secondly, the epidemic has made many people who stay at home interested in cooking. These are the key reasons for stimulating sales.

In fifth place is the furniture and home appliances category, with an estimated online sales of $362.9 billion. After the epidemic, people increased their investment in furniture and home appliances in order to work comfortably at home.

Although the results of this year's shopping season were not as impressive as expected, looking at the entire November holiday shopping season, overall sales still increased to a certain extent.

According to Adobe Digital Insights ' analysis of online sales data from the three major shopping festivals in the United States this year, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday , American consumers spent approximately $109.8 billion online from November 1 to 29, an increase of 11.9% over last year.

Relevant surveys show that the relaxation of epidemic prevention policies has led to an increase in the proportion of consumers shopping in physical stores, causing a certain decline in online sales.

Another reason is that due to the supply chain crisis, consumers are afraid of shortages and buy goods in advance instead of buying on a specific day. Sellers also start discount activities early or extend discount activities to give consumers more time to shop.

But overall, business sellers are still optimistic about the prospects of the e-commerce market. Oberlo said that online shopping will continue to develop and will become the mainstream form of shopping. The categories mentioned in the ranking are not only the hot trends this year, but may also be the sales direction in the future.
